UNS — Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta signed a partnership with the Directorate General (Dirjen) of Taxes, Ministry of Finance, Republic of Indonesia, in establishing a Tax Center. The partnership was officially signed by both parties on Tuesday (30/8/2022) at Auditorium G.P.H. Haryo Mataram.
The Head of the Central Java II Regional Office (Kanwil) of the Directorate General of Taxes (DJP), Slamet Sutyanto, attended the ceremony directly. The Official Staff of Central Java II DJP Regional Office who also attended the event were the Public Relations Office II for Central Java II DJP Regional Office, Wiratmoko; KBB for Central Java II DJP Regional Office, Eko Budi Setyono; Central Java II DJP Regional Office Investigator II; and the Heads of the Tax Offices of the ex-Karesidenan Surakarta.
The entourage for the Central Java II DJP Regional Office was welcomed directly by the Rector of UNS, Prof. Dr. Jamal Wiwoho, SH, M. Hum; the Vice-Rector for Planning, Partnership, Business, and Information Affairs, Prof. Dr. rer.nat Sajidan, M.Si.; and the Director of Partnership, Development, and Internationalization UNS, Prof. Irwan Trinugroho, M.Sc, Ph.D.; and Dean of Vocational School, Drs. Santoso Tri Hananto, M.Acc.Ak.
The Rector of UNS, Prof. Jamal, said that taxation affairs in a country become the center and crucial aspect of the economy. All countries in the world rely on taxes as their primary source of revenue. For this reason, Prof. Jamal welcomed the establishment of the UNS Tax Center to foster students’ awareness of taxes’ significance. “I hope that there will be activities, discussions, including socialization, in order to increase awareness on the importance of paying taxes,” said Prof. Jamal.

Additionally, with the existence of the Tax Center, Prof. Jamal also hopes for greater opportunities for student internships and research opportunities for lecturers on taxation affairs. These opportunities are expected to help DJP in deciphering taxation problems.
This hopeful opportunity was welcomed by the Head of the Central Java II DJP Regional Office, Slamet Sutyanto. He said that the UNS Tax Center will be the 24th Tax Center under the management of the Central Java II DJP Regional Office. “Central Java II DJP Regional Office welcomes this Partnership Agreement signatory. UNS is a strategic partner of Central Java II DJP Regional Office in disseminating taxation information and comprehension related to taxation to the community and higher education institutions,” said Slamet.
The partnership established between DJP and UNS will include various activities such as the implementation of education and services, as well as assistance and tax consultation to the academic community and the general public. The scope of the agreement also includes research and studies in taxation affairs, assistance in the DJP work program implementation, and the appointment of liaison officials. This program can also be implemented in taxation research or studies and university empowerment to increase the effectiveness of collaboration and partnership between DJP and stakeholders. Meanwhile, the UNS Tax Center was established as a form of community service in terms of education, which is also expected to increase public awareness and concern for understanding their tax rights and obligations.
