UNS — Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta continues to strengthen its international network and enhance its global reputation through the Friends of UNS program. This program is intended for UNS international partners who have established long-term cooperation and contributed to academic development and global collaboration.
This offline edition of Friends of UNS was held at the Ki Hadjar Dewantara Building, UNS Tower, on Wednesday (8/4/2026), and was attended by university leaders, international partners, and students.
In his remarks, UNS Rector, Prof. Dr. Hartono, stated that this initiative is a strategic step in strengthening UNS’s position on the international stage through sustainable collaboration. On this occasion, UNS officially introduced Professor Bruno S. Sergi as part of the Friends of UNS.
Professor Bruno, who is an academic at Harvard University and University of Messina, has been collaborating with UNS for more than a decade. His contributions include various joint publications in reputable international journals, the initiation of a joint laboratory in Boston, United States, and his strategic role as a member of the advisory board of the UNS Fintech Center.
“In addition, his involvement in managing Scopus-indexed journals as Editor-in-Chief has made a significant impact on improving the academic quality and international reputation of UNS,” explained Prof. Hartono.

During the event, a presentation titled “Connect, Collaborate, Go Global: The Case of Greenwashing and Marketing Management” was also delivered, highlighting the importance of sustainability in modern business and marketing practices.
The material discussed the development of green marketing concepts since the 1970s, driven by growing global environmental awareness, up to the present time where sustainability has become a key factor in encouraging innovation and the development of environmentally friendly technology.
Over time, demands for sustainable practices have continued to increase from governments, international organizations, and consumers. This has encouraged companies not only to focus on economic growth, but also to pay equal attention to social and environmental impacts. In this context, sustainability is seen not only as a challenge, but also as a strategic opportunity.
Future business growth depends greatly on the ability to develop innovative, practical, and sustainable technologies, while aligning long-term strategies with market needs and social responsibility.
Through the recognition of Professor Bruno in the Friends of UNS program, UNS hopes to continue expanding impactful global collaboration and contribute to the development of knowledge and sustainable solutions for communities around the world.
