UNS — A student from Diploma Program in Mandarin Language (D-3) Vocational School (SV) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, Sabrina Rebecca Tiani, managed to bring back several achievements in Mandarin Festival V competition and the Commemoration of Global Confucius Day on Wednesday (4/11/2020).
In the competition held by the Confucius Institute (CI) Universitas Negeri Surabaya (Unesa) on 27 October to 4 November 2020, Sabrina, her short name, won the second place and favorite speaker in Mandarin speech category and second place and favorite photographer in the photography category. These achievements proved UNS student’s capability during the covid-19 pandemic as well as opening the new month of November with a sweet gift. Sabrina stated that she took the preparation for the Mandarin speech and photography contest seriously. Even to achieve maximum result, she bought Cheongsam or Chinese traditional clothes.
“Firstly, I bought Cheongsam four days before the competition. Then I practice speech to avoid stiff pronunciation. For photography, I searched for photo spots that match the theme,” Sabrina stated.
Sabrina also mentioned that the result of this competition is inseparable to the role of her supervisor. Dian Adi Prasetyo, B. Ed., MTCSOL, her supervisor, helped her correcting and perfecting her speech manuscript. During the competition, Sabrina experienced several challenges, such as facing students from other universities and time management between studying and preparation. “One day before the competition, I went to vihara Lotus at 5 because I had an assignment, we were racing with the sunset to take the picture, thankfully we got a good picture,” she said. She also said that she needs five takes to get the perfect speech video.
With these achievements, Sabrina stated that she is happy and grateful that she can bring proud name for UNS. She also hopes that she can win in other competitions. Humas UNS
