UNS — Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta student achieved an accomplishment in a national essay writing competition on University Student Innovation and Creativity in Realizing Post-Pandemic National Economic Development. The competition was held by the Student Executive Board (BEM) Faculty of Economics (FE) Universitas Mohammad Husni (MH) Thamrin. Alvianita Maulia Fitriana from the Geography Education Program Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) won 2nd position in this competition.
Alvianita said that she was happy and felt motivated to create more work after knowing that she won over 218 participants in the competition. The announcement of her triumph came on Saturday (3/4/2021) after she went through the competition stages.
“There was no supervisor, but (I) was inspired by the teacher’s research because I am a research assistant,” Alvianita said.
The teacher is Seno Budhi Ajar, a researcher of tourism and culture who researched the tourism industry in Central Java amid the pandemic. From this study, Alvianita became familiar with the tourism condition in Central Java amid the Covid-19 pandemic. In the competition, Alvianita submitted a virtual tourism application named Fun Virtual Trip, which brings tourism experience into the user’s phone screen. It has various menus, including videos, photos, and rotate view. “Thus, people can experience tourism amid the pandemic, even though virtually,” she explained.
Alvianita took 1 – 2 months to develop the app while assisting her teacher’s research. She said that she wanted to hone her writing skill through the competition. She faced challenges during the development because her idea and available literature are rare. In the future, she hopes that she can create more creative and innovative ideas. She also felt challenged to try competing in other competitions. Humas UNS
