UNS Students are Victorious in Surakarta Genre Ambassador Event

UNS – Amid the ongoing Covid-19 Pandemic, some of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Students remain capable to accomplish a wonderful achievement in ‘Generasi Berencana (Genre)’ Ambassador Selection for Surakarta in 2020. This year’s selection takes on the theme of Glorious Youth.

The selection for Duta Genre Surakarta this year was held in several places as a venue for the prospective of Duta Genre to proceed. During the technical meeting, the event was held in Balai Twang Praja 5 Balaikota Surakarta (City Hall). Meanwhile, during the quarantine, they are located in Rumah Wakil Wali Kota Surakarta (the House of Deputy Mayor of Surakarta) dan Balai Tawang Praja 5th floor. During public test, the event was held at Sekolah Menengah Atas (SMA-High School) Batik 1 Surakarta.

In this prestigious event, there were five UNS students who won the championship. The students are Jihan Ashila 1st place for Female Duta Genre (Dugen), Alifi Kurnia 2nd place for Female Dugen, Ahmad Nur Kholis who won the Men Category for Talented Dugen, Salva Sabrina who won the Female Category for Talented Dugen, and Dhiya Restu Putra who won the Male Category for Best Advocacy Dugen.

The ‘Duta Genre’ Selection was postponed due to the Covid-19 Extraordinary Event (KLB) in Surakarta. “The selection starts in March. At that time we were quarantined for three days, but due to the Covid-19 KLB, thus the grand final is postponed until June. Precisely on July 16, 2020,” Dhyiya, the Champion of Best Advocacy Dugen from the Local Literature Study Program, Faculty of Cultural Studies (FIB), explained.

When contacted by uns.ac.id on Friday (31/7/2020), Jihan Ashila, the 1st Champion of Female Duta Genre, revealed that she was surprised and do not expect this achievement. “Shocked and did not expect, because I absolutely have no target and most importantly, I just enjoy every process and always do your best. After finding out that I got the 1st champion, of course I am grateful and thanks to God because without His intervention, I could not have been at this point,” Jihan reveals.

Jihan also states that she wishes to be a useful person for society, thus the society will be more aware of Genre. Similarly, Dhiya Restu Putra, also reveals his wishes, “Hopefully, in the future, together with Genre Ambassador and Genre Forum Surakarta, as well as Population and Family Planning Control Office, we can improve teenagers understanding on Genre program. That for the future, teenagers must be prepared from now and avoid early marriage, premarital sex and drugs, psychotropic drugs, and addictive substances (drugs),” Dhiya hopes. Humas UNS
