UNS – Focused to instill the values of kindness and cheerfulness for children, Dhini Winahyu Hapsari presented Kinciria Fairytale House since last May 2018. The student from the Law Study Program, Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) started the movement due to her concern about kindness and courtesy in children, which starts to feel strange.
“Moreover, there are many children who are unlucky to receive happiness in their childhood,” Dhini states when contacted by uns.ac.id on Thursday (20/7/2020). Therefore, Kinciria Fairytale House attempts to be a community on that based on the concern for the morale of children in Greater Solo in particular and Indonesia in general. As the vision and mission of the community, the inculcation of values for these children is also guided by Pancasila.
Related to the fairytale method, Dhini explains that this method is chosen because it is considered as one of the effective and creative methods to insert the value of kindness and advise children without having to hurt them. “Through fairytale, the values can be delivered properly in pleasant ways. Other than knowledge transfer, fairytale also brings happiness to children. This is why I love fairytale,” Dhini adds.
Further, according to Dhini, Kinciria Fairytale House has three main functions. First is providing fairytales for Indonesian children; Second, providing periodical education; and Third, instilling kindness and courtesy in children. As the vision and mission, the first function means that Kinciria provides fairy tales as its main facility, creative methods, and catharsis to children in general through various opportunities. This is also supported by the function in ‘steps of kindness’. Based on this function, Kinciria Fairytale House does not limit the space for goodness or social synergy of the ‘Pasukan Ceria (t/n: Cheerful Forces–a greeting for its members)’. The community seeks to make room for each of its members to continue to initiate good projects outside the education scope, either in collaboration and incidentally.
Meanwhile, for implementing ‘periodical education’ function, the ‘Pasukan Ceria’ is actively providing assistance to children in Pucangsawit RT/RW 001/011 Jebres, Surakarta, for once a week. The assistance is not only done in the form of fairy tales but also catharsis or fun games. “As for periodical education, we establish a monthly curriculum. Every week we plan on what learning material to be inserted, and this is more focused on the value of life. For instance, regarding certain expressions like ‘sorry’ ‘please’ and ‘thank you’. We repeat this for one month. But since there is an ongoing pandemic, now, we are more focused on social media movement,” Dhini explains.
When asked about challenges, Dhini highlights the boredom point that can be experienced by children and how to keep children excited. Similarly, the cohesion and consistency of members who have various activities. Especially during the pandemic, where a direct meeting is not possible. Additionally, not all of the members who joined the Kinciria Fairytale House initially are able to tell stories. As a result, they must learn how to tell fairytales together.
Nevertheless, Dhini remains happy with the activities that she did with the Kinciria Fairytale House. Because storytelling is indeed an activity she likes and she can present it to children in a fun way as she stated at the beginning of the interview. “For me, fairytales are like stress relief,” Dhini concludes.
