UNS — For certain individuals, fish wastes are a problem, but on the other hand, fish waste also has high economic value. This situation motivates students from Mechanical Engineering Education Study Program, Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, to create a Double Shaft Fish Waste Shredding Machine to solve the problem. The initiatives was made by five UNS students, namely, Dwi Yudha Meydiansyah, Handy Prabowo, Hermawan Yudha Prasetya, Iksan Riva Nanda, and Dzakwan Murtadlo Mukti. The five establish a machine with a twin shaft shredder under the supervision of their Lecturer, Dr. Eng. Herman Saputro, M.Pd., M.T.
The idea originated from the Fish Meal processing in Berahan Kulon Village, Wedung Sub-District, Demak. The fish farmers in this region are still implementing conventional cutting methods using scissors for fish meal processing, and the lack of fish meal availability. The five students assembled a double shaft shredding machine to solve the problems faced by the farmers incorporated in the Fish Farming Group (Pokdakan) Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise (MSMEs) Margo Mulyo Abadi. The shredding machine will improve the effectiveness and maximizing the shredding process in fish meal processing.
Dwi Yudha hopes that the machine can enhance fish meal production and speed up the production process. “We design a double shaft shredder under the supervision of Dr. Eng. Herman Saputro, this idea is motivated by the need to establish an effective production. Hence, using this shredder, the farmers in Margo Mulyo Abadi can produce fish meal at better speed,” he explains.
Further, Dwi Yudha adds that machine utilization can increase farmers’ turnover in Margo Mulyo Abadi Pokdakan. He also hopes that the machine can be beneficial in supporting fish meal production. Humas UNS
