UNS — ‘Hitting two birds with one stone’ may be the appropriate proverb to describe Jazuli Abdin Moenib, S.Sn., M.Hum., journey in his career. The academic member from the Faculty of Art and Design (FSRD), Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, has worked in the art field for around 20 years and has created various works.
Before choosing illustration and animation, Moenib (Jazuli Abdin Moenib’ nickname), explains that in choosing this specialization, he follows his passion and interest. The alumnus of Graphic Design Study Program, the Faculty of Literature and Art (FSSR) UNS or better known as Visual Communication Design (DKV) FSRD UNS recounts his college days while learning various courses in art and design. This knowledge aides him in advancing his career.
“During my university days, I learned various art and design materials. I think this knowledge is useful for my future, thus I explored all sectors in DKV UNS. In the last semester, I prefer to focus on illustration and animation,” recounts the student who used to be UNS representative and winning 1st winner in National Art Week 1997.
During the last 10 career years, Moenib creates various logo designs and artwork. He also participated in various competitions and exhibitions, both at national and international levels. In total, Moenib has won sixty competition since 2012. One of the competitions he won is the logo and material competition for an analytics company from the United States (US), Absolute Analytics by Michigan USA.
During the pandemic, the lecturer who currently is enrolled as a doctoral student in UNS remains productive in crafting artwork and participating in the exhibitions. According to Moenib, there are several memorable virtual exhibitions for him such as IVCE FSRD UNS, IVAE UiTM Malaysia, FilArt Philippine, Trakya Univ, Turkey, and several exhibitions in India and Bangladesh. His art on Virus and Cell Intuition in 2018-2019 succeeded in entering Top 10 Winner in International Art Contest, Show Your Talent 2020 in the Philippines.
Before the pandemic, he also participated in international exhibitions and workshops in the International di Poh Chang Academy of Art, RMUTR Bangkok, receiving an invitation from Nakhon Ratchasima Province – Thailand to join Korat International Exhibition. His international visit is not limited to event participation but also to establish a network with Indonesian and international artists.
“The exhibitions I joined were mostly abroad, the final objective is not to join the exhibition as merely a participant, but to build a connection with the artists and curators from all across the world,” Moenib states. Currently, Moenib is a member of International artist associations, such as ART SPECTRA India, SPPAA India, ASROPA Korea, and ISPARTA Turkey. He reveals that this membership gives a huge advantage for his career journey and UNS reputation. This relation with international artists, art curators, and academic staff will facilitate his future project.
“Wider network and relation from various countries will improve culture sharing, art, and other networking collaboration either for personal, group, or institutional matters, even more, university collaborations,” Moenib explains.
At the end of 2021, together with the academic members of the FSRD UNS, Moenib planned to collaborate with artists from other countries. In line with the plan, a seminar or workshop in collaboration with several universities in Asia and Europe is scheduled. Humas UNS
