Various Innovations of UNS Students Displayed in Wonogiri KKN Program Closing

UNS — Various students’ innovation products are displayed during Student Community Program (KKN) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, withdrawal ceremony in Wonogiri. The ceremony was attended by the Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation Affairs, Prof. Kuncoro Diharjo, the Secretary of Regional Development Planning Agency (Bappeda) Research and Development (Litbang) Wonogiri, Sunarno, and governmental staff in Eromoko Sub-District and Ngadirejo Village, as well as KKN UNS students in Wonogiri. The withdrawal ceremony is held simultaneously on Wednesday (24/2/2021) from five Districts, Wonogiri, Klaten, Sragen, Boyolali, and Sukoharjo. Each ceremony was conducted symbolically.

Prof. Kuncoro appreciates the outcomes of the KKN UNS program in Wonogiri. “I am proud and appreciate the useful innovations made by UNS students. The students’ innovation and creativity are great and excellent, there is dab soap from cooking oil waste, tie-dye, Moringa leaves nugget, and other products,” Prof. Kuncoro reveals.

Positive appreciation also comes from the Wonogiri governmental staff. The Secretary for Bappeda and Litbang Wonogiri, Sunarno, states that the programs conducted by KKN UNS students are helpful for community empowerment. “Thanks to UNS for deploying their students to do community service here. My greatest appreciation for various programs held and hopefully, this will be a sustainable program to increase society productivity,” Sunarno explains.

During the exhibition, a member of the KKN UNS program in Wonogiri, who initiates the production of dab soap from cooking oil waste, reveals that the process needs additional materials. “Active coals need to be added to the main material, the used cooking oil removes its oil properties and is purifying. Afterward, the material is filtered using filter paper and added with water. KOH is added as a soap-making ingredient and then mixed using a mixer. If you mix it manually, the oil will not thicken, thus you have to use a mixer,” explains Alfaro.

Closing the ceremony, Prof. Kuncoro advised all students to continue to develop skills during college, especially during KKN. “During KKN, at least students can develop various skills such as communication, creative thinking, problem management, and teamwork,” Prof. Kuncoro advised. Humas UNS
