UNS — Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta held its first online Campus Life Introduction for New Student (PKKMB) on 14-20 September 2020. This year PKKMB took the name of Mahasura Muda 2020. Which represents young fighters that fill with hopes and great determination. Taking the jargon of “Mahasura Muda Pembelajar! Pencipta! Dan penggerak!” (Young Mahasura Learner! Creator! And Driver!) the committee of PKKMB Mahasura Muda UNS 2020 wants the new students to become a person who is loyal to concocting change, creating out of the box ideas, innovating, and taking risks.
What are the managing committee and new students’ opinion on the first online PKKMB?
uns.ac.id has an opportunity to have a conversation with the Chief Executive of PKKMB Mahasura Muda UNS 2020, Raditia Yoke Pratama. Yoke –his friendly nickname— stated that there are many challenges that he went through to hold the first online PKKMB. Unlike previous PKKMB which is held offline and gather new students from all over the country. This year, UNS student only watch the PKKMB from their screens.
“During the formulation of concept and process, we found some difficulties, like to direct the new students to get involved in the PKKMB event, because online, there is difficulty to perform real monitoring. But we are sure that 70-80 per cent of new students understand what we shared with them,” Yoke stated.
The student from the Sociology Program also stated that their preparation to break the record in Indonesian World Records Museum (MURI) was a considerably heavy responsibility. For a week they prepared paper MOB configuration that involved 4500 new students. Yoke admitted that the committee needs to be creative in using the technology.
“We must be patient with the MURI record. We also use a guidebook, so that this year we made innovation in the guidebook to facilitate new students to understand what we say,” Yoke added.
Besides Yoke, other PKKMB Mahasura Muda UNS 2020 committee, Viviana Difa, also shared her experiences when taking part in the event. As the Chief of Media, online PKKMB in her opinion, need to be supported by excellent delivery of information through social media. There are many difficulties, especially that it is the first time PKKMB was held online. When it is online new students will tend to pay more attention to social media, which means that her division has to work extra hard to introduce UNS through media. But despite the challenges, Viviana stated that she is grateful for the appreciation and compliments received by PKKMB Mahasura Muda UNS 2020 committee. It inflates her team spirit to create more and relieve their fatigue from preparing the PKKMB.
“The new students appreciated our works this year. Alhamdulillah, there was high engagement, many new students appreciate the works of media division, such as a friendly response from admin and other things,” Viviana stated.
Besides having a conversation with the committee, uns.ac.id also contacted one of the new students in UNS, Krisna Murti, through a short messaging app. Krisna is accepted in the Diploma Program in Applied Communication of Vocational School (SV) UNS. He stated that PKKMB this year was exciting even though it was held online. It was a new experience for him to join online PKKMB. He also conveyed his gratefulness to be able to take part in breaking MURI record for paper MOB configuration with 4,500 new students. Humas UNS
