UNS — Students of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta were moved to create adaptive rhythmic gymnastics for the blind. The six UNS students are Rahmat Subroto from Sports Education and Coaching Program 2017, Lusi Hikmawati from Agricultural Extension & Communication Program 2017, Tri Lestari from Fine Art Education Program 2017, Riska Fatmawati from Special Education (PLB) Program 2018, Nanda Dewi from Special Education (PLB) Program 2017 and Yochidamai Akhsanitakwim from Biology Program 2017.
The team leader, Rahmat Subroto stated that the gymnastics were created from their concern for blind students who cannot see the movement showed by models in gymnastic videos. While blinds people need on various physical activities in sports are important to develop their orientation and mobility skills. Under the supervision from the Faculty Member of PLB FKIP UNS, Sugini, M.Pd, they created an innovation by adapting rhythmic gymnastics to be accessible for blind people. Their rhythmic gymnastics uses lyric that describes the movements practiced which enables blind people to follow the moves. The moves in the gymnastics are simple but have a philosophy and separate purpose tailored to the characteristics and needs of the blind. The adaptive rhythmic gymnastics for blind aims to train the footstep confidence, hand and foot coordination, body balance, and improve posture. Currently, this adaptive rhythmic gymnastics has been implemented inSMP Modern Islamic School (MIS) Surakarta.
“The rhythmic adaptive gymnastics is applied for blind students in SMP Modern Islamic School Surakarta which is selected as a partner in Student Creativity Program – Community Service (PKM-M) from our team,” Rahmat explained, Tuesday (22/9/2020).
They also hope that the gymnastics can be applied by the public and that it can improve fitness and orientation and mobility skills for the blind. Humas UNS
