UNS — Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta recorded another achievement at the national level. This time, a student of the Indonesian Language and Literature Program, Pradana Ricardo, won an opinion writing competition held by Student Press Group (LPM) Warta Jitu, Universitas Lambung Mangkurat (ULM).
Ricard, his short name, won the 3rd prize in the competition for his opinion on the online learning process during the pandemic. Ricard stated that he is grateful for the achievement, mainly because he won another competition in Politeknik Pembangunan Pertanian Yogyakarta-Magelang not long ago. “Alhamdulillah, in close time on 18 July 2021, Ricard got the announcement for opinion writing competition in FKIP, Universitas Lambung Mangkurat. Ricard won the 3rd prize in that competition,” Ricard said.
The 2019 batch student explained that he often participated in competitions because it developed his writing skills in popular and scientific passages. When asked about the tips to participate in two competitions that have close time schedules, Ricard stated that the key is intention.
“According to Ricard, the key part is to use the competition as a means to learn and self-development. Intend it for learning to get more knowledge, especially outside our major. If we intend it for learning and improve our capacity, even with a closer time schedule, it will still be interesting,” he said.
This competition opened submission on 10 July 2021 and assessment on 11-15 July 2021. The final result was announced on 18 July 2021 with a tight competition because many participants from various universities participated in the competition held by LPM Warta Jitu, ULM. However, the tight competition did not scare Ricard off, and he is sure that his willingness to try is a strong fundamental for his works.
“I think the key is we are willing to try and to fail. Every trial has a failure. But do not use the failure as a reason to stop trying to send works into a competition. Use it as learning and evaluation. Keep trying until our work wins a competition,” Ricard concluded. Humas UNS
