UNS – Anticipating the spread of Coronavirus (Covid-19), Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta through the Circular Number 1480/UN27/HK/2020 Regarding Early Precautions, Preparedness, and Anticipatory Measures to Prevent the Spread of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (Covid-19) Infection, UNS took a step to change the classroom lecture from the face-to-face meeting into online, started from Monday (16/3/2020).
To monitor the activity, the Rector of UNS Prof. Jamal Wiwoho held a hearing with the students through an online meeting, on Tuesday (17/3/2020). This online hearing is followed by Rectory staff, the Dean from each Faculty, and students’ representatives from each faculty in UNS. Besides monitoring, the implementation of future online learning in UNS is also discussed.
One of the online hearing participants from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Science (FMIPA), Enna Hasna Ainun Nuurul Ma’rifah, states that besides using SPADA there are several alternatives for online learning in UNS.
“As I understand from the explanation from my friends in different faculty as well as the explanation from the Rectory staff and the Deanery, UNS allows the use of other online lecture systems aside from SPADA, such as one developed by Google. Some lecturers use the WhatsApp group. Therefore, for each online learning product have their pros and cons,” said Enna.
As for the implementation of the online lecture, not all students can access the program well. The most common problem encountered is related to the network connection.
“The concern is those who have a bad connection or network, therefore a method to ensure that every student is not constrained by networks wherever they are, is needed,” explains Enna.
Meanwhile, an online attendance list is implemented using an Android-based UNS Mobile Attendance app. The attendance is done by the Lecture by getting approval from the class president on who does not join the online class.
On the other side, the Vice Rector and each Dean encouraging lecturers to optimize online learning. It is expected that the Lecturers not only giving assignments the burdens the students but also providing the material according to the course being taught.
