UNS – Taking a measure to the massive spread of Covid-19 or the Coronavirus, the Faculty of Medical Science (FK) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta develop health tips with K-SMART jargon – Kendalikan Infeksi (control infection), Social Distancing, Makan Sehat dan Bergizi (healthy and nutritious foods), Agama dan Spiritualitas (religiosity and spirituality), Rutin Berolahraga (exercise regularly), Tidur Berkualitas (quality sleep) and Kelola Stress (stress management).
As explained by FK UNS student, Aiman Hilmi Asaduddin, K represents kendalikan infeksi or controlling for the infection, this focuses on how to control the spread of Covid-19.
“Infection control is on how the spread can be controlled. Especially from ourselves,” Aiman, who is also an outstanding student in FK, stated when contacted by uns.ac.id on Wednesday (18/3/2020).
Infection control can be done by washing hands with soap, using hand sanitizer after going out. This aims to maintain hygiene so that the virus will not spread wider. For those who are coughing, follow the right ethics, wear a mask when sneezing or coughing or cover it with the upper arm.
On social distancing, this concerns avoiding the crowd at this time. It is suggested to avoid the crowd. If there is mild sickness, people are advised to stay at home and take a rest. Going on a picnic is not recommended.
“For the second point, social distancing or avoiding crowd, is more on how we isolate ourselves and only meet others when it is urgent if there is no urgency, it is advisable to avoid meeting others,” explained Aiman.
Social distancing is crucial because the spread of Covid-19 is massive and unpredictable. This is because people who look healthy can become a carrier of Covid-19. Thus, even if we do not feel any symptoms, it is suggested that we avoid the crowd and perform social distancing so as not to infect people with low immunity such as old and sick people.
The next point is consuming healthy and nutritious foods. It is important to consume healthy and nutritious foods to improve immunity.
“Consuming a healthy and balanced diet is suggested so that we can improve our immunity, our ability to fight pathogens or germs that enter our body. So, out body has a mechanism to fight the germs, but if this immune mechanism is weak and is not supported with a healthy and nutritious diet, we will be more susceptible to contracting Covid-19 or other diseases,” Aiman said.
The next point is religiosity and spirituality. Building a relationship with God to put our soul at peace and do not panicking in facing the disease. God creates Covid-19, therefore, asking for protection from God is needed.
It is also suggested to exercise regularly. As we know, exercise has many positive effects. Exercise can improve our immunity, maintain stamina, health, and bodily function in good condition. It is suggested to exercise for 30 minutes 3-5 times a week from home.
“Exercise also has a function to improve immunity, stamina, health, and maintain bodily functions so (we are) in good and healthy condition,” Aiman expressed.
The last point is quality sleep and stress management. This can serve to increase the body’s immune system so that we are not easily infected and to optimize body function. Stress can trigger a drop in immunity; therefore, we need to control it so that it does not bring a negative impact on our body. Humas UNS/Zalfa
