UNS – The education expert from the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, Prof. Siswandari stated that in implementing online learning, teachers need to be creative to avoid student’s burnout from their School from Home (SFH) activities. Online learning which is implemented as a solution in the Covid-19 pandemic aims to facilitate students to study from home (SFH) and to slow down the spread of Covid-19. Teachers must be creative in terms of ‘how to teach’ their students and the use of media.
Prof. Siswandari provided an example that teachers should not rely on the WhatsApp platform because it does not provide a means to interact and collaborate with other children in the class. The result of her survey shows that around 50% of teachers utilized WhatsApp., but there many other platforms that teachers can use, such as Spada, Zoom, Google Meet, or similar apps. Teacher’s creativity will spark interest in children to learn.
Prof. Siswandari added that teacher needs to implement effective learning. This learning system is characterized by first, clear learning goals, passion to teach and compassion toward students, supporting atmosphere, and continuous assessment and feedback for students. Parental supports are highly needed in the implementation of online learning. Parents should support and assists students learning from home, especially for those at the kindergarten and elementary school. Parents’ support will greatly help the teacher in achieving learning objectives. Humas UNS
