The moderator for the occasion was Dr. Asal Wahyuni Erlin Mulyadi, MPA and the first speaker to deliver the material was Aris Windiyanto, M.Si. on the topic of ‘Self-Confidence in Facing Civil Servant Selection in the Digital Era’. On the occasion, the alumni of FISIP UNS from State Administration Science Program provided an explanation on the stages and material for the selection of Civil Servant Candidates (CPNS) 2019. The selection consists of three stages, administrative selection, Basic Competency Examination (SKD) and Field Competence Examination (SKB). Each examination includes material that must be completed by CPNS test participants.
Due to Covid-19 pandemic, SKB examination that should be conducted on March was postponed and replaced in September 2020 by implementing health protocols. Aris suggested participants follow the update of announcements, studying the fields they applied, managed health and implement health protocols, and do not trust anybody who offers help to pass the examination. From the psychological standpoint, Dr. Tri Rejeki Andayani, S.Psi., discussed the ‘Strategy and Mental Readiness in Facing the Employment Selection in the Digital Era’. In 2019, according to her explanation, the open employment level of university graduates with undergraduate to a doctoral degree were 737,000 people. Graduates need to understand their motives in their job search; professional or institutional motives. This motive will help them in identifying what they need to prepare when applying for a job. Applicants need to pay attention to the firm’s characteristics before applying for a job because companies tend to choose applicants who are compatible to a firm’s characteristics.
In formulating strategy and mental readiness, some tips can be applied by applicants, for example, eliminating negative perception on the selection process and improve self-confidence by preparing facilities and infrastructure. The keys to the psychological test are readiness, calmness, and concentration. During the selection process, the participant must understand the direction of test administrators. Lastly, real self-presentation, do the test consistently and honestly, evaluate, pray, and value what you have done.
The last speaker was Sofie Syarif, the alumnus of Communication Science Program FISIP UNS who discussed mega disruption caused by pandemic, particularly in the digital field. Previously, the working environment has experienced changes from the generation and now doubled with the pandemic which fastens the existing changes. Updates are needed by educational institutions to adjust to the current condition. Sofie suggested that campus should be willing and supply its students with not only knowledge by also experience and imagination to enter the working environment because being creative is the only option to survive in the current situation. Currently, people who want to build a career in the media need to manage their portfolio. Besides the ability to multitask and adaptable which also support one’s duty. Humas UNS
