UNS — Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta passed two proposals for Holistic Village Development and Empowerment Program (Program Holistik Pembinaan dan Pemberdayaan Desa – PHP2D) from the Ministry of Education and Culture (Kemendikbud) of the Republic of Indonesia (RI). This result was announced through Kemendikbud Letter Number 1672/E2/KM/2020, Wednesday (5/8/2020) that can be accessed in dikti.kemdikbud.go.id website. PHP2D is a program from Kemendikbud RI to foster student’s sense of concern and contribution to the rural community to build an active, independent, empowered, and prosperous foster village.
The two proposals are from Mechanical Engineering Student Association (KMTM) Faculty of Engineering (FT) and Agricultural Extension & Communication Student Association (HM Pelita) Faculty of Agriculture (FP) UNS. KMTM FT UNS brought the theme of ‘Technology-Based and Zero Waste Pattern for Oyster Mushroom Cultivation in Improving Bakalan Village Productivity’, while HM Pelita FP UNS submitted a proposal on ‘Community Empowerment through Mushroom Processing in Agricultural-Based Edu-Tourism Development at Gondangmanis Village, Karanganyar’.
The Vice-Rector for Student and Alumni Affairs UNS, Prof. Kuncoro Diharjo appreciated this achievement as proof that UNS has two proposals funded by PHP2D each year. This also shows that students have a high interest in performing community service program. The leader of KMTM FT UNS Team, Tri Rahmaji stated that their program utilized straw waste as a media to cultivate oyster mushroom. The program will also implement thermal control technology using the IoT system to maintain cultivation room temperature. The program is supervised by a Faculty Member of Mechanical Engineering Program, Ubaidillah, Ph.D, and started from Bakalan Villagers who mostly work as farmers. During the pandemic, many of villagers who work in the city were affected by massive layoffs. The high number of unemployment and industrial revolution 4.0 encourages the students to formulate their program. The leader of HM Pelita FP UNS Team, Riskia Akbar stated that the program proposal supervised by Eksa Rusdiyana, M.Sc. Also focuses on mushroom cultivation. Humas UNS
