UNS — The Agrotechnology Program Faculty of Agriculture Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta launched a result of a study on organic fertilizer from natural dye waste. The launching was carried out on Friday (17/7/2020) in Puron Village, Bulu Sub-District, Sukoharjo District. The Team of Collaborative PNBP Community Service Program 2020 from Agrotechnology Program FP UNS led by Prof. Maria Theresia Sri Budiastuti with the members of Prof. Bambang Pujiasmanto, Prof. Supriyono, Prof. Djoko Purnomo, Dr. Puji Harsono, Trijono Djoko Sulistyo, M.S, Aprilia Ike Nurmalasari, M.Sc., Ida Rumia Manurung, M. Agr., and Desy Setyaningrum, M.P.
Prof. Maria Theresia Sri Budiastuti or Prof. Tuti stated that the community service program that has been implemented by the team is the processing of natural coloring waste from Indigofera tinctoria extraction into fertilizer under the name Komfera Semar (Kompos Indigofera Sebelas Maret). The program is implemented in a collaboration with CV. Indigo Biru Baru, a business that runs in blue natural coloring in Puron Village. In the Indigofera tinctoria extraction which produces 90% of untapped waste.
Prof. Tuti added that the utilization of Indigofera tinctoria extraction waste into organic fertilizer is a form of UNS concern and contribution for the community in handling waste which usually burned. The team has conducted physics and chemical analysis on Komfera fertilizer in Environmental Biotechnology Laboratory PT. Biodiversitas Bioteknologi Indonesia. The analysis results show that the fertilizer has met the requirements for solid organic fertilizer based on the regulation of the Minister of Agriculture Number 70/Permentan/SR.140/10/2011. The contents of organic fertilizer are C organic 48.43%, C/N ratio 15.6, the water concentration of 48.49%, N total 3.26%, P total 0.98%, K total 1.75%, pH 9.22 with dark brown color.
The team also shared the information on organic fertilizer in Puron Village Hall. The socialization was attended by 36 people from farmer groups and women farmer group in Puron Village. The team also conducted training on organic fertilizer production using the waste of Indigofera tinctoria extraction. Puron Village community were enthusiastic in participating in the socialization and training. The ingredients required to produce Komfera fertilizer are the extraction waste, cow manure, and bran, by a comparison of 1:60:10, 500 ml molasses and 500 ml EM4 for 150 Kg waste.
“We have experimented using Komfera fertilizer as a mixture of planting media for several vegetable crops such as cayenne pepper, large chillies, tomatoes, eggplant, mustard greens, spinach, and water spinach. Based on the experiment results, the crops can grow well. Currently, we are conducting an experiment of organic fertilizer on Indigofera tinctoria plants in pots. The production of Komfera fertilizer is performed in Rumah Kompos,” Prof. Tuti explained. The secretary of Puron Village, Eko Sudarisman S.E stated that this program is expected to increase the economic value of Indigofera tinctoria waste in Puron Village, Sukoharjo District. Humas UNS
