UNS — The International Office, Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta organized a webinar entitled “Improving University Global Ranking” on Wednesday (16/9/2020), inviting Dr. Isidro F. Aguillo, the founder and editor of Webometrics (Universities’ Web Ranking) who based on Spain. Dr. Aguillo also serves as the head of the Cybermetrics Lab, which is part of the Institute de Public Goods and Policies (IPP), which is under the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC).
In his opening remark, the Rector of UNS, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho revealed that UNS is concerned with Webometrics ranking and wishes that UNS will be ranked higher in the next period. “Currently, UNS is ranked 10 among Indonesian universities in Webometrics,” Prof. Jamal explains.
Therefore, in this webinar, Prof. Jamal as the Rector of UNS invites the leaders of UNS units and the members of the UNS Senate to listen to the presentation and discuss with Dr. Aguillo to gain a comprehensive understanding.
In his presentation, Dr. Aguillo explains that basically, the assessment from Webometrics covers 4 (four) aspects Presence, Excellence, Visibility, and Openness. In detail, he explains the indicators for each aspect and analyzes how the UNS position in each of these indicators. Moreover, Dr. Aguillo also delivers several aspects that need to be improved to enhance the presence, visibility, and openness.
“For example in the presence indicator, a standardized personal page for each lecturer that covey an informative and complete content, linked to a various external website such as Google Scholar, Research Gate, and Scopus, is important,” Dr. Aguillo explains.
Further, Dr. Aguillo also explains the visibility aspect both for the university’s portal, social network, and many others. At the end of the presentation, he reminds the participants regarding three important points to improve university ranking, such as creating new contents that support sustainable development goals, encourage international scale research, and delivering international content written in English aside from local content, this to improve visibility at the global environment.
