Financial Literacy Webinar from KMTM FT UNS

UNS — The Student Body of Mechanical Engineering Program Students (KMTM) Faculty of Engineering (FT) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta held a webinar on Learn How to Organize Finance Properly. This event was held through Zoom Meeting on Friday (11/9/2020) and was attended by more than 200 participants.

On the occasion, KMTM invited Widya Yuliarti, SST., MM., CFP. a financial planner. Opening the event, Widya emphasized the importance of planning in achieving an objective. A goal without planning is just a hope, there is no action plan, which is why planning is important. Widya also explained that there are several functions of financial planning. Among the functions of financial planning is an individual will have a beneficial knowledge. The main function is to help regulate financial expenditures to achieve financial goals. Life will be more organized when financial management is implemented well. For Widya, good financial planning can bring a positive impact.

The initial step that needs to be taken when someone wants to manage their financial planning is to understand the financial condition before performing financial allocation. Financial check-up acts as a way to understand one’s financial condition. After understanding if a person is a saver or spender, they must create a financial allocation, for example setting a minimum of 20% of income for savings and use the rest 80% for living expenses.

Widya also shared tips for students to control their spending. First making a budgeting and daily financial notes. With these two, students will find out what they spent their money on. Widya added that if a student wants to invest, they must have financial security before doing so, including the emergency funds. “If you want to invest, it is important to have financial security, to understand the type of investment, and financial target. These are the steps to start investing (our money),” Widya added.

The webinar is expected to assist students to manage their finance and develop their financial literacy. Humas UNS
