UNS — The community service team from the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta conducted a series of assistance in the management of the waste bank for the community incorporated in the joint business group (Kelompok Usaha Bersama – Kube) Karya Mandiri and Women Empowerment Group (Kelompok Pemberdayaan Perempuan – Pokdayapuan) Karya Mandiri of Gonggangan Hamlet, Bolon Village, Colomadu Sub-District, Karanganyar District. The community service team led by Suryandari Istiqomah, SE, M.Sc has an objective of improving the management of the waste bank in Kube and Pokdayapuan Karya Mandiri through increasing member’s awareness.
The community service team consists of Prof. Dr. Asri Laksmi Riani, MS, Dra. Anastasia Riani Suprapti, M.Si, Drs. Moch Amien Gunadi, MP and Yeni Fajaryanti, SE, M.Si. According to Suryandari Istiqomah, SE, M.Sc, this event is expected to increase the awareness of Kube and Pokdayapuan Karya Mandiri members to collect and separate household wastes and to improve member’s skill in processing wastes into marketable products.
Suryandari explained that the program started with the introduction on sedekah sampah (waste hands out) program to increase the volume of wastes donated by Kube and Pokdayapuan Karya Mandiri members. The team also prepared a tutorial video to create a couch and table from plastic bottle wastes. “The video was uploaded to Pojok Berbagi Ndari YouTube channel. The link to the video was given to the partner’s members to be learned,” Suryandari explained Monday (16/11/2020).
The other activity performed in the program is the contest of creating sofa from plastic wastes which was joined by 6 Kube groups. The competition was held on 20th September 2020 which received special attention from the village chief and the Head of Colomadu Sub-District. In between the competition, the participants received training on digital marketing to support the sales of their products.
“From various training provided, we hope that it can provide added values for the community. The result of wastes collection and direct sales of wastes and its derivative products can be used for community activities, to assist a grieving family who lost their family member by providing equipment for a funeral,” Suryandari explained. The program was held by applying health protocol, wearing a mask, providing handwashing equipment, and maintain physical distancing. Humas UNS
