UNS — Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta ranked seventh in the Best Sustainable Campus in Indonesia based on the UI GreenMetric 2020 ranking, Monday evening (7/12/2020). The award plaque for the Best Sustainable Campus in Indonesia is received by UNS’ Rector, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho. Through Zoom Cloud Meeting, Prof. Jamal delivered his gratitude to UI GreenMetric to always put UNS in the Top 10.
“Alhamdulillah. We delivered our gratitude to Allah SWT for the grace we received today as the 7th best sustainable university in Indonesia. We have been ranked 7th for three years in a row,” Prof. Jamal stated.
The Rector also said that UNS has a strong spirit and commitment to be a dynamic and advanced university contributing to sustainable development. This dream is achieved through sustainable management, application of environmentally friendly technology, and a sustainable lifestyle on campus and in society. In the presence of the Rectors from other universities, Prof. Jamal reminded that academia should be committed to maintaining the earth’s sustainability as an inheritance for the young generation in the future.
“It is a pride for Universitas Sebelas Maret to be a part of a national and international movement to achieve sustainable earth,” Prof. Jamal closed.
UNS placement in the 7th place of Best Sustainable University in Indonesia UI GreenMetric 2020 is based on various assessment indicators. Based on the official information released by ui.ac.id, the assessment is based on three pillars: environment, economy, and social.
“The weight for assessment indicators consists of campus condition and infrastructure 15%, energy and climate change 21%, waste management 18%, water management 10%, transportation 18%, and education and research 18%,” the Chairman of UI GreenMetric 2020, Prof. Riri Fitri Sari, stated
On this occasion, the Rector of Universitas Indonesia (UI), Prof. Ari Kuncoro, also stated that the Covid-19 pandemic that struck Indonesia and the world had brought awareness of the importance of living a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment. He thinks that living 10 months under the shadows of Sars-Cov-2, the university has been able to reflect and redefine their management and consider the impact of university activities on the environment, economy, and social condition of the surrounding community campus and in Indonesia.
“I am glad that many universities in Indonesia are enthusiastic about participating in this ranking. Their enthusiasm shows that more universities take environmental and sustainability aspects more seriously,” Prof. Ari Kuncoro stated. Humas UNS
