UNS — Wonogiri Students Association (Himagiri) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta in collaboration with Bintang Timur Foundation (BTF), worked together in reforestation of forest in Gunung Brojo, Wotglinggang hamlet, Joho Village, Purwantoro Subdistrict, Wonogiri District. This activity was held on Sunday (6/12/2020).
The reforestation activity started at 08.00 Western Indonesia Time (GMT+7). The Department of Forestry Branch XI Central Java, the Chief of Wotglinggang Hamlet, the Head of RT, and local community were invited to participate in the reforestation. Dian Nugroho, as the CEO and Founder of BTF, explained that this program is implemented as a realization of Himagiri UNS social program in collaboration with BTF. The program was named Himagiri Mengabdi. Reforestation is selected considering the forest is a natural resource for the surrounding community. “For example, water springs, because in dry season water is hard to get in this area and only available for daily needs. Alhamdulillah, we got support from the local community,” Dian, who is also a Fine Art Education Program UNS student, explained to uns.ac.id team, Monday (7/12/2020).
The Department of Forestry Branch XI Central Java located in Wonogiri provided 250 plant seeds, 100 Trembesi (Samanea saman) seeds, 50 Gayam (Inocarpus fagifer (Parkinson ex Zollinger) Fosberg) seeds, 25 soursop seeds, 25 Guava seeds, 25 Rambutan seeds, and 25 Petai (Parkia speciosa) seeds. In the implementation, Dian admitted that they only selected the good seeds to be planted. Besides plating tree seeds, Himagiri UNS and BTF also taught the right method to plant the seeds to BTF foster children.
Then, Himagiri UNS and BTF will establish a collaboration with Joho Village people as a form of follow up in the future. With this event, Dian represented BTF and Himagiri UNS hope that Himagiri UNS and BTF can build a synergy to develop Wonogiri. “Hopefully, with this event, Himagiri UNS and BTF have more synergy to develop Wonogiri in every field, one of which is this reforestation. We hope that the result of this reforestation brings positive results to the environment around Gunung Brojo so that in the future, there will be better water sources that can be used by the surrounding community,” Dian concluded.
