UNS Held a Discussion with International Advisors

UNS — The Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta initiate innovation for accelerating international reputation and the global ranking, through a discussion with UNS International Advisors, Thursday (3/12/2020). There are 10 (ten) International Advisors attended the discussion, they are Prof. Iftekhar Hasan (Fordham University, USA), Prof. Kose John (New York University, USA), Prof. Amine Tarazi (University of Limoges, France), Prof. Fotios Pasiouras (Montpellier Business School, France), Prof. Haitian Lu (Hong Kong Polytechnic University), Prof. Suk Joong Kim (University of Sydney, Australia), Prof. John Wilson (University of St Andrews, UK), Prof. Ahmet Faruk Aysan (Hamad Bin Khalifa. University, Qatar), Prof. Gonul Colak (Hanken School of Economics, Finland), and Prof. Siong Hook Law (Universiti Putra Malaysia).

In his remarks, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho as the Rector of UNS states that it is the first time for UNS to have International Advisors. Further, he states that the objective of this discussion is to prepare the strategy for strengthening UNS’s global reputation and ranking in 2021 and the long-term. Therefore, he invites the university leader and faculty head, consisting of Vices-Rector, Deanery, Directors, Head of Institution, and Vices Dean to join the discussion.

“I wish for the assistance from the International Advisors in improving UNS academic reputation in the global ranking by QS,” Prof. Jamal reveals.

The discussion was started with a presentation from the Head of World Class University Team, Irwan Trinugroho, Ph.D., regarding the current UNS position and strategies as well as the challenges in facing the global ranking. In general, Dr. Irwan mentioned that the strategies can be categorized into five aspects namely global academic reputation improvement, university reputation improvement by employer, research and publication-quality improvement, learning activity quality improvement, and internationalization activity quality improvement. Following the presentation, each advisor provides their opinion, feedback, and suggestions on UNS strategy in accelerating international reputation and ranking.

The discussion was concluded by the Vice-Rector for Partnership and Planning Affairs, Prof. Sajidan, who states that this discussion is the beginning of the long-term effort, thus he hopes that the collaboration with the international advisors can sustain. Humas UNS
