UNS — Faculty of Cultural Studies (FIB) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta held an international webinar on “Building Javanese and Bashu Friendship to Strengthen international Collaboration between UNS and Xihua University”. This international event was held on Thursday (18/3/2021). The offline event was held in Seminar Room FIB UNS and shared online through the Zoom Cloud Meeting application and FIB UNS YouTube channel.
From UNS, Prof. Dr. Warto, M. Hum., the Dean of FIB UNS, Dr. Dwi Susanto, S.S., M. Hum. from Indonesian Language and Literature Program UNS, and Sutarjo, M. Hum., the Faculty Member of Local Literature (Javanese Language and Literature) Program UNS attended the event. Xie Yingguang, Wang Xuedong, Li Zhao, Pan Shuxian, and Wang Ya Fei from Xihua University also joined the international event.
“FIB always supports UNS to be equal with the other World-Class Universities,” Prof. Warto stated in his opening remark. To conclude his remark, the Dean delivered his gratitude to the event’s managing committee. The remark was followed by a remark from Xihua University’s Rector, who stated that UNS had achieved prestigious awards and accomplishments. The Rector also delivered an anniversary wish for UNS and hopes that UNS will be one step further in achieving its bright future.
“I hope this event will bring new ideas designed by the two universities in managing other international level programs, especially in culture and literature,” Prof. Yunus, who represented the Rector of UNS, stated while opening the event.
Prof. Warto delivered the first material in Surakarta Chinese People’s Role in Developing Javanese Culture. Prof. Warto stated that Chinese People contributed to developing karawitan or gamelan music, developing wayang orang show, and batik. Dr. Dwi Susanto delivered material on the Reception of Chinese Arts in Indonesian Literature during Dutch East Indies Era 1900-1942. During the colonial era, 759 Chinese literature works were translated and adapted to Indonesian literature. These works consist of religious or education materials, Confucius Scripture, political writings, folk tales, dynasties glory days story, and novels. Sutarjo sang tembang macapat (traditional Javanese songs) such as Pucung and Kinanthi, receiving a round of applause from participants.
Xihua University also delivered materials on Chinese culture. Xie Yingguang, Wang Xuedong, Li Zhao, Pan Shuxian, and Wang Ya Fei, students of the Faculty of Literature and Journalistic Xihua University, shared the history of Chinese culture.
