FK UNS Research Team Developed Learning Media using E-Learning Method During the Pandemic

UNS — Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta is committed to continually improving its learning quality, especially in the digital field amid the Covid-19 pandemic. This commitment is shown by a team of researchers from the Faculty of Medical Science (FK) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta and HITIHE (Health Information and Technology for Improved Health Education in South-East Asia) Team of Erasmus+ that developed application-based learning media funded by The Institute of Tropical Medicine.

The learning media is named Epi-Smart – Project Digital Transformation of the Epidemiology Module for Clinical Education of Sebelas Maret. The program is led by dr. Vitri Widyaningsih, Ph.D, and several researchers from FK UNS. This application is expected to not only assist in the university student learning process through the Android-based smartphone.

“Epi-SMart is equipped with special features in epidemiology fields, including materials that are connected to an education video, epidemiology calculator, scenario-based study, and questions with discussion,” dr. Vitri Widyaningsih explained on Thursday (26/8/2021).

Epi-SMart display is designed uniquely to attract user’s interest to run the learning program with more fun. The installation and signup process are pretty easy and only require email and phone numbers. The application has two language options, Indonesian and English. This app also has complete content that supports the learning process.

“Materials on epidemiology are equipped with video to facilitate material comprehension. Exercises are provided under Indonesian Physician Competency Standard (SKDI) that will train students to face the competency examination. Discussion on exercises is prepared in an exciting manner to facilitate comprehension,” she explained.

This application has been pilot tested for the young doctor from Public Health Sciences and Integration station. Young doctors are allowed to provide suggestions and evaluations for the development of this application. They are pretty satisfied with the Epi-SMart application as epidemiology learning media.
