UNS — The 46th Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta Anniversary is celebrated with various events and activities. One of the activities that marked the 46th UNS Anniversary was the 2022 Sebelas Maret Startup Academy (Semesta) inauguration. The 2022 Semesta was officially launched on Thursday (10/3/2022) virtually through the Zoom Cloud Meetings and the Official Youtube Channel of Universitas Sebelas Maret.
The event was opened by the UNS Vice-Rector for Research, and Innovation Affairs, Prof. Dr. Kuncoro Diharjo, S.T., M.T. Prof. Kuncoro said that the Semesta program is beneficial for all academic members. The academic members referred to include students, lecturers, and UNS alumni. “This program benefits final-year UNS students, alumni, industry partners, and lecturers. Let’s welcome the innovation and startup incubation program at UNS in 2022,” said Prof. Kuncoro.
According to Prof. Kuncoro, this Semesta program can also boost UNS Key Performance Indicators (IKU). The IKU assessment point that can be achieved through this program is decent jobs opportunities for UNS graduates (IKU 1), off-campus experience for students (IKU 2), off-campus working opportunity for lecturers (IKU 3), community implementation, or getting international recognition for lecturers’ creation (IKU 5), study programs’ partnership with world-class universities (IKU 6), and collaborative and participatory classes (IKU 7).
The Regional Secretary of Surakarta City, Ir. Ahyani, M.A., was also present during this grand launching ceremony. Ir. Ahyani greatly appreciates this program because Semesta Program is expected to strengthen the relationship between the government and universities. “These recent events aim to build Surakarta, not only for the regional government but also for the people of Surakarta. Related to startup incubation, hopefully, the City of Surakarta and UNS can bring numerous innovations. Surakarta also provides a place for startups in Solo Technopark, which can mobilize the general public to establish a startups business,” he said.
UNS Director of Innovation and Downstreaming, Prof. Dr. Eng Agus Purwanto, S.T., M.T., said that the Semesta program is one of the superior programs hosted by the UNS Directorate of Innovation and Downstreaming. This program is one of the synergy activities designed between universities and the industrial world in divulging research and innovation results.
“We at Universitas Sebelas Maret, for research and innovation affairs, through the Directorate of Innovation and Downstreaming, strive to facilitate the development of research and innovation results, cultural arts, and innovative creations by UNS academic members through funding opportunities and startup incubation programs. Moreover, to increase innovation acceleration, this program is expected to encourage the research results commercialization and accelerate technology-based startups growth,” he added.
Prof. Agus explained that UNS Innovation Hub designed several programs this year. First, Semesta Bright aims to capture tenants specialized in various sectors such as health, food, agriculture, creative industry and tourism, education, information and communication technology, and social humanities from the UNS academic members (lecturers, students, and alumni). Second, the Semesta: New Renewable Energy, in collaboration with Pertamina, captures tenants from the UNS academic members and the general public to develop startups in new renewable energy. The next program, the Innovation Development Program (PPI), is an innovation development scheme for lecturers or UNS academic support staff. Finally, the last program is designed for research and artistic creation and design, with a program objective to accommodate the art and design researchers, creators, or reviewers’ creativity within UNS. Registration to these four programs will open from March 10, 2022, and will be closed on March 16, 2022.
The 2022 Semesta Program this time carries the theme entitled “Inherit the Spirit of Innovation by Collaborating Wisdom and Technology Advancement.” A number of practitioners and funding partners attended the ceremony and delivered explanations at the grand launching. Some of them include Achmad Adhitya (Executive Director of Solo Technopark), Mia Krisna Anggraini (VP New Venture PT Pertamina), Kiwi Aliwarga (Founder UMG Idealab), Christopher Rexi (Venture Partner Init 8), and Gufron Syarif (Owner Haus Indonesia).
