UNS — Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta officially added two new faculties. The Rector of UNS, Prof. Dr. Jamal Wiwoho, SH, M.Hum., explained that the two new faculties are the Faculty of Psychology and the Faculty of Information Technology and Data Science. The official provision for the establishment of the Faculty of Psychology is contained in the Rector’s Decree No. 319/UN27/HK/2022. Meanwhile, the official provision for the establishment of the Faculty of Information Technology and Data Science UNS is contained in the Rector’s Decree No. 320/UN27/HK/2022. Both Decrees were dated March 11, 2022.
The addition of these two new faculties within UNS brings numerous hopes and expectations. The Rector of UNS hopes for faster and better development in the future for the Faculty of Psychology, which had previously been a Study Program within the FK UNS. “The Faculty of Psychology has long been a program. We hope that the promotion from a study program into a faculty will encourage a faster and better development for the Faculty of Psychology,” hoped Prof. Jamal on Thursday (24/3/2022).
Further, Prof. Jamal considers that the Faculty of Information Technology and Data Science at UNS is a futuristic faculty. The faculty fits perfectly into the disruption era and the 4.0 industrial revolution as it is today. The opening of a new faculty this time went through a different process given the status of UNS as a Legal Entity State University (PTNBH). Prof. Jamal said that the education autonomy owned by UNS now encourages new regulations to open faculties, study programs, and others.
“The establishment process consists of proposal submission from the Rector to the Academic Senate for a review process by the Academic Senate. After that, the Academic Senate will issue a recommendation to open the two faculties,” said Prof. Jamal.
Prof. Jamal also explained a different model implemented regarding the addition of new faculties this time. As Rector of UNS, he reveals that there is no plan to appoint a new Dean for these new faculties. This decision is based on UNS’s status as PTNBH, which allows UNS to have a lean structural position but with broad and rich functionality. “We now have thirteen faculties and two schools. However, this does not mean we need fifteen Deans; it will remain thirteen. In the future, it can be leaner. For fifteen faculties, we could have less than 10 (ten) Deans, for example,” explained Prof. Jamal.
Regarding the UNS New Student Admission Selection (SPMB), these two faculties provide additional admission capacity for the entire track. As reported from UNS Instagram account uploads @spmbuns, the quota for UNS Psychology Faculty students’ admission capacity increased from 150 to 250 people. Meanwhile, the students’ admission capacity for the Faculty of Information Technology and Data Science increased from 80 to 100 people. Humas UNS
