Enliven the 46th UNS Anniversary, PUI Javanologi UNS Hosted World Dance Event 4.6

UNS — Celebrating the 46th Anniversary of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, UNS Javanology Center for Excellence in Science and Technology (PUI Javanologi) hosted the World Dance Event 4.6 (WDE 4.6) or World Dance 4.6. This activity aims to invite global citizens to move and dance together in an ambitious atmosphere to leave the Pageblug behind (t/n: Javanese term referring to crisis due to an epidemic/pandemic), the turmoil of the Covid-19 Pandemic through cultural intervention.

To date, health recovery after the pandemic remains a major objective. However, other efforts related to resilience and strengthening mental and spiritual immunity, economic recovery, and social community are substantially needed. The Rector of UNS, Prof. Dr. Jamal Wiwoho, SH, M.Hum., said that UNS has a great commitment to developing science and technology based on national culture excellence. “The UNS academics members will always continue to work hard to improve UNS reputation as a world-class university, developing culture, especially Java by consistently encourages the improvement Indonesian citizens’ quality of life, and all the global population, according to the national excellence potential within the framework of NKRI Bhineka Tunggal Ika. UNS will always lead and encourage accelerated recovery and revival from the Covid-19 pandemic crisis,” he said.

The UNS Javanologi Center for Excellence in Science and Technology (PUI Javanologi) creative team, chaired by Pujiyani and Sugiyanto, succeeded in creating Beksan Smarasanta ‘Tarian Sang Pamomong–The Dance of the Caretaker.’ Beksan Smarasanta is designed with ease in memorization and practice, adorning various health exercise moves accompanied by multifarious Javanese music and special UNS ornaments. Beksan Smarasanta also built a spirit of fondness, cultivating mental and spiritual immunity, and found the right cultural strategies to collaborate in organizing civilization in the New Normal Era.

The WDE 4.6. turned out as successful in attracting the world’s attention. The WDE 4.6 participants consist of 65 contingents from the Indonesia Embassy Offices (in 14 countries), various universities, Diaspora, International Art and Culture circles, and students (from 30 countries). The total WDE 4.6 participants were from 44 countries, namely Saudi Arabia, Argentina, Austria, Bangladesh, the Netherlands, Brunei Darussalam, China, Chile, Costa Rica, the Philippines, Finland, the United Kingdom, Honduras, India, Indonesia, Iraq, Italy, Japan, Cambodia, Kazakhstan, Croatia, Madagascar, Malaysia, Mexico, Myanmar, Namibia, New Caledonia, Nicaragua, Oman, Panama, Poland, Qatar, Rwanda, Singapore, South Korea, Slovakia, Suriname, Taiwan, Thailand, Togo, the United States, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam.

The Head of UNS PUI Javanology, Prof. Sahid Teguh Widodo, M.Hum., Ph.D., hopes that in the future, it will be possible to carry out similar activities, such as Teko Gahe, Javanese Cultural Award, International Meeting, World Cultural Events, and various International Courses. UNS PUI Javanologi hopes that in 2023 they can realize the Java Commercialization and Internationalization Program better to contribute to world peace and establish a new civilization.
