Acting Rector Leads 48th Dies Natalis Ceremony, Emphasizing UNS's Continued Contribution - Universitas Sebelas Maret

UNS — Dr. Chatarina Muliana, S.H., S.E., M.H., the Acting Rector of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, led the ceremony commemorating the 48th Dies Natalis of the university. The ceremony took place in the Dr. Prakosa Building courtyard on Thursday (3/7/2024).

In her remarks, Dr. Chatarina expressed gratitude to the lecturers, staff, and students for their participation and collaboration in various activities as part of the 48th Dies Natalis celebrations of UNS. This year’s Dies Natalis theme is “Dynamic Transformation of Higher Education to Realize Indonesia Emas 2045 Vision.”

Dr. Chatarina emphasized that at the age of 48, all members of the UNS community are expected to move faster and more accurately in making tangible contributions to assist the government in facing every challenge. “Tangible contributions can be made, among other things, through the tridharma of quality and beneficial higher education institutions according to the needs of society, the nation, and our country,” Dr. Chatarina stated.

Higher education institutions will continue to face significant challenges in the years to come, partly due to the rapid development of technology, which forces all entities, both business and non-business, to undergo transformation and redefine their relevance, business models, processes, and competitive advantages. Another challenge is related to the global conditions full of uncertainty, complexity, rapid change, and ambiguity, which drive every entity to become adaptive, dynamic, and flexible organizations. Therefore, it is important for higher education institutions to make real contributions to the nation’s economic independence and development through innovative real-world works and products that can be applied in society and solve various problems in people’s lives due to the rapid development of technology and current and future global conditions.

“We all realize that our country, Indonesia, will enter a phase where the productive population will outnumber the non-productive population by 2030, which, if executed properly, will be a demographic bonus, but if not well utilized, it has the potential to become a demographic disaster,” Dr. Chatarina explained.

Therefore, higher education institutions play a crucial role in this regard, as they are expected to produce educated individuals who are innovative, responsive, creative, competitive, cooperative, and have a strong national spirit in accordance with the objectives of higher education in the Higher Education Law. “These individuals are expected to be enablers in accelerating the realization of the demographic bonus into high-quality economic growth,” she added.

Hence, higher education institutions, including UNS, are expected to dynamically transform and become organizations with agility so that they can quickly adapt to the changing times and significantly contribute to the Indonesia Emas 2045 vision, especially in human development and mastery of science and technology. The transformation of UNS must be carried out while adhering to the principles of higher education.

On this occasion, Dr. Chatarina also mentioned that the internal institutional arrangement process of UNS, in accordance with Ministry of Education and Culture Regulation No. 24 of 2023, is still ongoing as planned. After the selection process of the University Senate, various regulations related to the selection of the Rector will be prepared, which is expected to be completed soon so that the process of selecting the rector can be carried out immediately. “We strongly hope and believe that this arrangement will be a solid foundation for UNS to accelerate, in order to achieve its vision as an excellent university at the national and international levels by supporting the achievement of the Indonesia Emas 2045 Vision. We expect the support and prayers of all UNS campus residents for this arrangement to proceed smoothly and produce strong institutional governance,” Dr. Chatarina added.

In conclusion, may the 48th anniversary of UNS serve as a landmark, a point where all components of UNS collaborate and synergize, accelerating UNS’s performance in achieving the envisioned vision. Thus, UNS will not only be a source of pride for the Soloraya community but also for Indonesia.

After the ceremony, various winners of competitions were announced, including the Green Campus competition between faculties and schools in 2023, the Inclusion competition between faculties and schools in 2024, the Health and Occupational Safety and Environmental competition between faculties, schools, and units in 2024 in the Faculty and School categories.
