UNS — Bengawan Team achieved remarkable success in the 2023 Energy-Saving Car Contest (Kontes Mobil Hemat Energi, or KMHE) held at the Jakarta International E-Prix Circuit (JIEC) Ancol from October 28 to November 3, 2023. KMHE is a national-level competition that tests the ability to design and build vehicles that are safe, fuel-efficient, and environmentally friendly. KMHE 2023 was organized by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) through the Indonesian Talent Development Center (BPTI) and the National Achievement Center.
Bengawan Team entered the KMHE 2023 by participating in two different categories: the Urban Category with Internal Combustion Diesel Engines and the Prototype Category with Internal Combustion Gasoline Engines. As a result, the team successfully clinched titles in both categories: 1st place in the Urban Category with Internal Combustion Diesel Engines and 2nd place in the Prototype Category with Internal Combustion Gasoline Engines.
In the Prototype Category with Internal Combustion Gasoline Engines, the Nirankara Car designed by UNS students achieved an impressive fuel consumption of up to 766.92 km/L. Meanwhile, in the Urban Category with Internal Combustion Diesel Engines, the Wirasena Car from the Bengawan Team achieved a fuel consumption efficiency of up to 222.21 km/L.
Afif Damar Pratisto, the General Manager of the Bengawan Team, explained that KMHE 2023 was participated in by various universities in Indonesia with a rigorous selection process. This process included administrative selection, technical vehicle reports, virtual technical inspection, and finally teams deemed worthy by the jury to compete in the final round.


“The final round of KMHE 2023 involved a total of 60 teams with 600 participants from 42 universities in Indonesia. Alhamdulillah, Bengawan Team managed to compete among strong competitors and demonstrated that the innovation and hard work of our team are worthy of recognition,” the Mechanical Engineering student from UNS said on Wednesday (8/11/2023).
Anas Fikri Makarim, the Non-Technical Manager of Bengawan Team, also added that they are very grateful to all parties who have assisted the team in achieving the best results.
“We, the Bengawan Team, express our sincere thanks to the sponsors and especially to the university (Universitas Sebelas Maret) for their moral and material support, which are the pillars of our success this year and motivation to continue research in the coming years,” he added.
In this competition, the Bengawan Team was guided by Dr. Hammar Ilham Akbar, S.Pd., M.T.; Dr. Rendy Adhi Rachmanto, S.T., M.T.; and Prof. Dr. Eng. Syamsul Hadi, M.T.
