UNS — The Student Creativity Team on Creative Work (PKM-KC) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta consists of Lana Alfirza (Team Leader), Muhamad Satya Ragil Kencono, and Muhammad Hadziq Munajih (Team Members) won the funding from PKM DIKTI 2021. Under the supervision from Prof. Dr. Eng. Syamsul Hadi, S.T., M.T., the team submitted a PKM-HC proposal on “Micro Hydro Power Plant Based on ULH Stream Technology with Drag-Type Turbine to Achieve Energy Resilient Disaster Vulnerable Area”.
Lana and her friends selected this title because they want to explore the aspects that affect the Drag-Type Turbine performance and water flow speed.
“We want to find the aspects that affect the Drag-Type Turbine performance and water flow speed to develop the micro-hydro portable power plant design. We also want to create easy-to-apply power plants in disaster-prone areas. With the development of this equipment, hopefully, it could provide independent electric supply at affordable cost and provide a solution for the community that has difficulties getting electric networks, especially the community in the disaster-prone areas,” Lana explained.
They had conducted a survey in the location to apply the equipment in the disaster-prone areas and planned to apply the equipment in Bonglot Village, Jenawi Sub-District, Karanganyar. The area often experienced landslides and moving ground disasters. Before the application of this equipment in Jenawi, they had conducted the first trial of the prototype in the irrigation channel for Kunden Rural Tourism, Banyudono Sub-District, Boyolali District.
Portable Drag-Type Turbine is a special tool designed to produce electric power using very low water flow using the Ultra Low Head (ULH) Stream technology and designed portable to be easy to move. The produced electricity can be directly flowed into electric equipment or stored in a battery. The equipment is expected to be applied and used in disaster-affected areas.
“This equipment is expected to be applied and benefit disaster-affected areas that experienced difficulty in electric supply due to blackout and other causes,” Lana said. Humas UNS
