UNS – In commemoration of the Youth Pledge Day which fell on October 28, the Alumni Association of Universitas Sebelas Maret (IKA UNS) Surakarta in Central Java and Semarang held social service by supplying drinking water to the people experiencing drought in Temanggung Regency. In cooperation with Temanggung Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), this event was held on October 26, 2019.

To set off this event, the chairperson of Central Java IKA UNS as well as the Head of Central Java BPDB, Sudaryanto delivered his speech. He said that as an act of caring for others, IKA UNS of Central Java and Semarang helped Temanggung residents who were in drought as well as celebrating Youth Pledge Day. 

“Friends of Central Java and Semarang IKA UNS took the initiative to conduct social service by distributing safe water supply in Temanggung Regency. Temanggung was chosen because it is relatively close to Semarang and has considerable drought areas,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Head of Temanggung BPDB, Gito Walngadi expressed his gratitude to IKA UNS of Central Java and Semarang for providing a safe water supply. “Hopefully, this support can be a blessing for all of us,” Gito stated.

One of the caretakers of Central Java IKA UNS, Edy Supriyono further explained that this support was a series activity carried out by IKA UNS of Central Java. A total of 30 tanker trucks contain clean water were distributed to several villages in the District of Kandanga, Selopampang, Pringsurat, and Kaloranlamuk. Hereinafter, it will also be conducted in Pati, Demak, or Grobogan Regency.

Then, on November 9, IKA UNS of Central Java will also hold a regional competition of local culinary and Macapat, a metric and melodic poetry to present literature and ideas from local sources; the songs may be performed solo or with instrumental accompaniment. This competition will be held at Taman Indonesia Hebat of Semarang, in collaboration with the Art and Cultural Committee (KSBN) of Central Java.

“There are more activities of Central Java IKA UNS which touch the social life in general and Central Java in particular so that the alumni as the educated people not only live in an ivory tower but dedicate their knowledge and abilities to the society.
