UNS — For Rahman Hilmy Nugroho and Suci Astin Kurniati, knowledge on spatial planning should be brought to the community. Not only the government but also all parties working in the related field, thus the community can be actively involved in the development of the region or territory. This point of view encourages two students of the Urban and Regional Planning (PWK), Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta to release the ‘Jendela Kota’ program through Instagram (@jendelakota) and website www.jendelakota.site, which re-activated since May 2020.
To the uns.ac.id, Rahman explains that Jendela Kota is an education platform in planning management, especially city planning. This platform aims to be an educator that provides a forum for mutual discussion and exchange of ideas related to this field. “Jendela Kota aims to bring back planning value, which is packed in light language, thus it can be easily understood by the community to learn about spatial planning. The tagline is ‘dare to re-design our country’,” he reveals on Monday (24/8/2020).
However, for now, Rahman adds, he and his team just starting from the students and netizens on social media. This supported by the followers of @jendelakota that mostly is students, including PWK students from the various region in Indonesia, as well as several consultants and other professional institution in the city planning field.
Further, he hopes that ‘Jendela Kota’ can be known by the public with a wide range of audiences. “In the long term, we hope to be a community or a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) that can accommodate the community needs, especially the young generation, to work together in building their city,” Rahman reveals. Further, he explains that ‘Jendela Kota’ shares various information to its audience, both in the form of infographics through Instagram and article through its official website. The initiative also collaborates with various parties such as El Samara Coworking Space in a talk regarding ‘Youngsters Talk About City’, which was broadcasted live through both community Instagram account. There will be also a collaboration with @paperind.
regarding the content of its official website, there are many articles regarding spatial and city planning as well as articles related to the Covid-19 pandemics, such as Pandemic on Urban Planning: Valuable Lessons for Spatial Planning in the New Normal Era, the Relationship of Hazard, Vulnerability, and Disaster Risk. “On Instagram, we only cover information on spatial planning, but, due to the ongoing pandemic, we also cover the pandemic issue in its relations with the spatial planning,” said Rahman. The contents were written by the ‘Jendela Kota’ team members before it is open to the public, which started with an article competition entitled ‘Introducing PWK Program in Your University’. Prior to this competition, there was a challenge entitled ‘Show Your Mapper Pride’, this challenge has successfully gained attention from 50 netizens from the various regions in Indonesia.
Before returning in May, ‘Jendela Kota’ was temporarily out of activity, due to the team’s busy activity. To fix this, Rahman and Suci finally recruit five additional members starting in May 2020. The new members are assigned a specific role such as Instagram copywriter by Zhaza Az-zahrawaani and Kiki Fadhillah, Afni Ashrida, and Mutiana Ayu Cindi as website copywriter, Mukhlis Aji Pangestu in graphic design, while Rahman and Suci as coordinator for Instagram and website consecutively.
