UNS – A student of the Faculty of Medical Science (FK) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta initiates kindness content through social media named Terima Kasih Corona (Thank You Corona). The account named Terima Kasih Corona aims to share positive content in the pandemic which brings frustration and boredom for some people.
Narendra Rangga Reswara, one of the initiators of Terima Kasih Corona account shared his story with his team involved in the Terima Kasih Corona account. The boy who is usually addressed as Naren admitted that the development of Terima Kasih Corona account started when he observed a lot of complaints and negative content on social media. Naren who is also a student in FK understands that with the pandemic people are vulnerable to depression.
“At the beginning when Corona was shared everywhere, (I) started to observe Instagram posts or Twitter, which people seem complaint, like, people said they hate it, we can’t go abroad,” Naren said.
From the establishment of the social media account, currently, it is available in 3 platforms, Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook. Instagram and Twitter account to target the young generations who often used these two platforms. Facebook accounts targets older generations. The internet responded positively. The account now received many posts to complaints, confide in, or just share stories.
Together with the other 22 people, Naren and his friends continue to provide positive content amid the pandemic. Besides making positive content, Terima Kasih Corona also raises donations and collected around Rp. 4.000,000. They also conducted an online seminar that gains the enthusiasm of online people. Terima Kasih Corona exists to make people feel that Corona will bring a silver lining after it over.
“To eliminate negativity, we perform the opposite of the negativity, that is positive. Thus, we often do something to tell people that there are silver linings from Corona,” Naren explained.
Despite getting a positive response from the internet people, Terima Kasih Corona is not spared from negative responses from some people. However, they do not pay much attention to the negativity and stay focused on sharing positive content. Lastly, Naren reminded people to keep doing well even though the condition is not ‘okay’.
