UNS — An achievement in academic field was again presented by a student team from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Science (FMIPA) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta in the Statistics Infographics Competition (SIC) Statistika Ria Festival Sains Data (Satria Data) (Data Science Festival) of 2020. The members of the team are Hizkia Yotant Pradana, Fadila Alhaq and Naffila Ayu Sukmaningrum. All of them are the students of Statistics Program class of 2018.
This year the Satria Data 2020 competition from the Center for National Achievement (Pusat Prestasi Nasional), Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia (Kemendikbud RI) held online hosted by Institut Pertanian Bogor (IPB). “Statistic for better Future: Applying Statistics to Maximize Business Planning, Open up Job Vacancies” is the general theme raised by the committee. UNS sent 47 delegates to compete in this event, one of which is in SIC category.
In this category, UNS was represented by 7 teams and secured the third position in one category. Hizkia as the team leader stated that he is grateful for the result they obtained because previously he was not confident with the process in preparing the presentation. However, with the motivation and supports from their fellow students and faculty members in the faculty, Hizkia and team can win the competition. The 5th-semester student explained that his team chooses rural potential because the information concerning agricultural sectors is easier to obtain and to be analyzed by his team. Even though the committee offered Covid-19 theme which is a hot issue at the time, but Hizkia and team were optimistic with their choice of rural potential.
“Why we did not choose Covid is because we predicted that there will be many teams that raised that theme. So, we selected rural potential,” Hizkia stated to uns.ac.id team, Friday (13/11/2020).
Several obstacles that they experienced in preparing the competition are the discussion, which currently only possible to be held online and the tools to prepare the infographic design. However, these obstacles did not discourage them to participate in the competition. He also sends message for his fellow students to participate in organization and competition because it will become an important point in the future. “Don’t be insecure and pessimistic, if I can become a winner, you who are better than me certainly can be one,” Hizkia stated.
UNS delegates also obtain a good achievement outside of SIC category. In the National Statistics Competition (Kompetisi Statistika Nasional – KSN), Gde Deny Nugraha Jaya, student of Statistics Program class of 2017 UNS became a semifinalist. HUMAS UNS
