UNS — In commemorating the 44th Anniversary of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, the Faculty of Agriculture (FP) UNS held a community service program with the theme of “Dissemination of Hydroponic Installation and Food Products to Enhance Immunity” in Delingan and Gedong Village, Karanganyar District, Wednesday (19/8/2020).
The Dean of FP UNS, Prof. Samanhudi stated that the community service program was delivered in the forms of dissemination and food aids for the community affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. FP distributed a hundred packages of foods that consist of basic needs, milk, and honey. FP UNS selected the two villages because both are located in Bromo forest which is managed by UNS. Thus, this activity will bridge the synergy between UNS and the surrounding community, particularly in the implementation of tourism planning.
“Without reducing the essence of the activity, the community service which is scheduled for April 2020 was delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The activity was implemented by paying attention to the health protocol. This community service is also an effort from UNS, particularly FP UNS to transfer knowledge and technology in the agricultural fields to the community to assist them in developing the agriculture in their region,” Prof. Samanhudi stated.
In general, the village government appreciated this activity and hope for a follow up with another program that will increase the productivity of the community. “In addition to the aids distributed to the individual, FP UNS also granted hydroponic installation for the village hall. We hope that the installation will encourage the community to develop hydroponic-based agriculture that can be implemented at home or in a narrow space. We also provided fruit seeds for the surrounding space. The seeds are for soursop, jackfruit, guava and so on,” he concluded. Humas UNS
