UNS – The Faculty of Engineering (FT) at Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) commemorated the achievements of nine lecturers who recently earned their doctorate degrees by organizing a tree-planting event. Held on Friday (22/11/2024), the activity followed a healthy exercise session at the FT UNS campus and served as part of a health campaign aimed at fostering a culture of well-being within the faculty.
In his remarks, the Dean of FT UNS, Prof. Dr. Ir. Wahyudi Sutopo, S.T., M.Si., elaborated on the philosophy behind the tree-planting initiative.
“This tree planting is not merely symbolic. It is a celebration of the remarkable achievements of our nine doctorates, who have reached the pinnacle of academic success. Like the trees we plant today, the fruits of their achievements will require care, perseverance, and dedication. Similarly, earning a doctorate is just the beginning of greater contributions—not only to students and UNS but also to society at large,” Prof. Wahyudi explained on Friday (22/11/2024).
The event served as a moment of reflection on the critical role of knowledge in driving innovation. As part of the program, each doctorate recipient planted a tree symbolizing their individual characteristics. Among them, Dr. Wusana Agung Wibowo, S.T., M.T., planted an Indian Apple tree, while Dr. Ir. Yuniaristanto, S.T., M.T., chose a Pomelo tree. Lydia Novitriana Nur Hidayati, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., planted a Kaffir Lime tree, and Dr.Eng. Iwan Istanto, S.T., M.Eng., planted a Langsat tree. Dr. Ir. Edy Purwanto, S.T., M.T., opted for an Alligator Avocado tree, and Ir. Subuh Pramono, S.T., M.T., Ph.D., planted a Honey Mango tree. Dr. Ir. Rahmaniyah Dwi Astuti, S.T., M.T., selected a Red Longan tree, Dr. Ir. Fakhrina Fahma, S.T.P., M.T., planted a Matoa tree, and Dr. Raymond Lullus Lambang G.H., S.T., M.T., chose a Mahathir Mango tree.

“In the next three to four years, we hope to harvest not only scientific achievements, such as publications in reputable journals or Scopus-indexed accomplishments, but also tangible technological products born from your expertise,” Prof. Wahyudi added. “This marks the beginning of a new battle where knowledge must be transformed into practical applications that benefit human life. Human for Better Life is the spirit we all share.”
The tree planting also carries symbolic meaning, as the Dean of FT UNS expressed his hope that the nine doctoral graduates will continue to grow, contribute in their respective fields, and eventually become professors who make a significant impact in education and technology.
“In the coming years, we aim to see the fruits of this hard work, not only reflected in numbers but also in tangible contributions to society. Let us make UNS a deeply rooted center of innovation, much like the trees we plant today,” he concluded.
Through this activity, the Faculty of Engineering at UNS not only welcomed nine new doctoral graduates but also reaffirmed its commitment to fostering a healthy, sustainable, and innovative academic environment. The tree-planting initiative is expected to serve as a symbol of growth and enduring contributions toward a brighter future.
