UNS — Faculty of Art and Design (FSRD) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta is building a partnership with the Indonesian Furniture and Craft Industry Association (HIMKI) in Yogyakarta. This partnership includes the implementation of Creative Program Interns 2021 as an implementation of Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) Program from Kemdikbud RI and to develop the FSRD UNS Green Lab.
The program will run for a semester starting on 23 July 2021 and will end on 30 December 2021. The participants in this program are 60 students from four undergraduate programs: Visual Communication Design, Interior Design, Craft Arts (Textile Design), and Fine Arts Program.
Lulu Purwaningrum, S.Sn., M.T., Ph.D., the Coordinator for Learning with DUDI- FSRD Creative Program, stated that there are five main programs in this large internship scheme. The first program is briefing and sharing knowledge from the academicians and Business and Industrial World (DUDI) actors for students and HIMKI members.
The second program is students conduct internships in HIMKI Yogyakarya to learn the real condition followed by product development based on eco-design and socio-preneur. Students will also have a case study on upcycling denim under the supervision of HIMKI and the faculty members.
“Fourth, business incubation from the product designed in HIMKI companies. Fifth, digital archive exhibition and start-up,” Lulu explained to uns.ac.id on Monday (26/7/2021).
Currently, the participants are interning in the HIMKI member companies under supervision from FSRD UNS faculty members. Lulu added that this partnership is a form of collective support from FSRD UNS and HIMKI, who needs fresh ideas from university students in designing products. FSRD UNS also requires insight from HIMKI as a business incubation from Green Lab Design FSRD UNS.
“With an internship in HIMKI companies as business practitioners, we hope that student’s works will apply environmentally-based design principles, create products that the market will accept, and their works will be incubated in HIMKI companies. Therefore, become a start-up stub for students,” Lulu added.
The HIMKI members that accepted students as interns are, among others, PT. Dekor Asia – Bamboo and Wood Craft Industry, CV Yuka (interior and exterior stone craft industry), Artsy Craft (flower craft), K-nez (natural fibers), PT. Wastraloka Indo Kreasi (painted can and woodcraft), and CV. Kirana Mas Homes (natural fiber home decor and small wooden furniture). Humas UNS
