UNS – Minister of Defence (Menhan) of the Republic of Indonesia, Ryamizard Ryacudu, presented a public lecture to the new students of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta. The event was conducted on Tuesday (8/13/2019) at the yard in front of dr. Prakosa Building.
In that event, Ryamizard delivered the public lecture with the theme “State-Defense as the Antidote of Radicalism in Campus”. The issue was raised due to the tension of radicalism ideology that might be thriving in colleges recently.
Thus, as the Minister of Defence mandated by the President of Indonesian, Joko Widodo, Ryamizard considered that this was his duty and responsibility to increase the student’s understanding of nationalism and patriotism.
Furthermore, he mentioned that the threats for national defence like terrorism, were not only National Police (Polri) and Indonesian Military (TNI)’s duty but all people’s, no exception for the young generation.
“For example, terrorism. It cannot be fought using weapon. Not just the police and the army. The possibility for police and army to win against terrorism is only 1% ,” Ryamizard stated.
Besides reminding about terrorism, Ryamizard also added that the architectural concept of national defence which had been mandated in the 1945 Constitution (UUD 1945) and the Act Number 3 Year 2004, should be strenghtened by the sense of national defence from each individual. Not to forget, Ryamizard also reminded that the Ideology of Pancasila was a prodigious gift from God for Indonesia.
