UNS – Kastrat de Geneeskunde, a student activity unit focused on research and science at the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, once again organized the annual Medical Sebelas Maret Scientific Competition (MEDSMOTION) 2024. This year’s MEDSMOTION carried the theme “Establishing a High Level Strategy in Managing Cardiovascular Problems to Build Holistic Awareness of Society.” The final round of the scientific competition was held at the UNS Tower Ballroom, Ki Hadjar Dewantara Building, from Friday (12/7/2024) to Sunday (14/7/2024).
The event proceeded smoothly and with great enthusiasm. In his opening remarks, the Chief Organizer of MEDSMOTION 2024, Erlangga Masykur Kynaya, noted a significant increase in the number of registrants this year compared to the previous year. The committee successfully attracted 430 teams from 52 universities to compete. Dr. dr. Setyo Sri Rahardjo, M.Kes., the advisor of Kastrat de Geneeskunde, highlighted that MEDSMOTION is an annual competition that must continue to be held.
“Despite the pandemic, MEDSMOTION was conducted online in previous years, and this year marks the 14th successful MEDSMOTION,” Dr. Setyo explained.
Beyond the competition, Dr. dr. Selfi Handayani, M.Kes., Vice Dean for Planning, Business Cooperation, and Information at FK UNS, emphasized that MEDSMOTION also serves as a platform for medical students to hone their skills and expand their networks with fellow future colleagues. She encouraged participants to maintain their competitive spirit and seize the valuable opportunities offered by each competition experience.


The event featured five competition categories: Scientific Essay, Literature Review, Public Poster, Educational Video, and Medical Olympiad. In the Scientific Essay category, the first place was awarded to Muhammad Anthony Maulana’s team from Universitas Airlangga, the second place to Putu Wira Abdi Suputra from Universitas Udayana, and the third place to I Komang Tri Yasa Widnyana’s team from Universitas Pendidikan Ganesha.
In the Literature Review category, the first place went to Caesar Ramadhan Susanto’s team from Universitas Brawijaya, the second place to Malika Syaharani’s team from Universitas Gadjah Mada, and the third place to Umar Jundullah Masykur’s team from Universitas Brawijaya.
In the Public Poster category, the first place was won by Afuza Ahnaf Dzulfikar’s team from Universitas Brawijaya, followed by Ahmad Muhyidin’s team from Universitas Jember in second place, and Dyah Cahyaning Pramesti’s team from Universitas Brawijaya in third place.
In the Educational Video category, the first place was claimed by Faruq Ghani Alamsyah’s team from Universitas Udayana, the second place by Nur Aflah Lubis’s team from Universitas Brawijaya, and the third place by Pande Bagus Andhika Maharthanegara’s team from Universitas Pendidikan Ganesha.
For the Medical Olympiad, the first place was secured by Richie Jonathan Djiu’s team from Universitas Indonesia, the second place by Ikhsan Rifai Darmawan’s team from Universitas Airlangga, and the third place by Gede Indra Prabawa Putra’s team from Universitas Udayana.
Erlangga Masykur Kynaya, the Chief Organizer of MEDSMOTION 2024, added that the participation of medical students in this competition is a golden opportunity to foster a scientific climate in Indonesia and produce young researchers who will benefit the nation.
“MEDSMOTION is one of the major platforms that gives rise to many young researchers and brilliant idea creators for the sustainability of research in Indonesia. Keep creating for the nation’s progress. We hope that every study program and other universities share the same ambition and spirit to nurture a generation that is intelligent and brave enough to start creating great works for the country,” Erlangga expressed.
