UNS – A nationalism discussion to commemorate the Birth of Pancasila is conducted by the Alumni Association (IKA) of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta on Monday (1/6/2020). Through Zoom Meeting application and live broadcast in UNS YouTube account, 250 participants attend the discussion lead by Dr. Sunny Ummul Firdaus, S.H., M.H., which opened by a welcome speech from the Vice-Chairman of IKA UNS, Prof. Dr. Zudan Arif Fakrullah., S.H., M.H.
An invitation to instill the ideal values of Pancasila in daily life was delivered by Prof. Zudan from the beginning. With the diverse profession of UNS alumni, it is possible to achieve the implementation of Pancasila values in various sectors. The alumni of the Faculty of Law (FH) UNS also explained that the values of Pancasila can be well implemented in the countries that do not know Pancasila. Thus, Pancasila should be implemented excellently in Indonesia.
Currently, the collective needs and interests are becoming the focus of the Indonesian people. The spirit of togetherness is echoed by the members of the community to spread positive energy. The Rector of UNS, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho underlies that Indonesian people are going through the Covid-19 struggle.
“We will show to the world that we cannot be pessimistic, giving up. We must be able to bear the responsibility together, shoulder to shoulder to help each other. This is the beauty of Pancasila which always guides us in the diversity with the spirit of togetherness,” Prof. Jamal said.
On occasion, there were five invited speakers: Dr. Drs. Karjono Sestama, S.H., M.Hum. (Chief Secretary of Pancasila Development Agency-Badan Pembinaan Ideologi Pancasila), Prof. Dr. Hermanu Jubagyo, M.Pd. (Chief of Pancasila Implementation Study Center LPPM UNS), Drs. Sudaryanto, M.Si. (Widyaiswara Utama Regional Human Resource Development Agency of Central Java Province), Prof. Zudan (Directorate General of Population and Civil Registration of the Ministry of Interior Affairs and Chairman of KORPRI), and lastly Dr. Abdul Kharis Almashari, S.E., M.Si., Ak. CA., (Deputy of Commission I DPR-RI).
Delivering the opening material, Dr. Karjono explained the steps that can be taken to support Pancasila in the Covid-19 pandemic. The noble values of Pancasila must be present in every step taken by the government and its implementation in the community. There are two main steps to realize the noble values of the nation which is innovation and real work. Besides that, independence, unity, and helping each other are also the points that should not be brushed aside.
The implementation of Pancasila in mutual cooperation (gotong royong) becomes an important point in the discussion. Prof. Hermanu explained that gotong royong is a strength that can be used to grow democracy one of which is in the economic field. The real implementation of this concept is the Cooperative. Quoting from the Father of Indonesia Cooperative, Moh. Hatta, who stated that a form of gotong royong in the economic field is cooperative.
As the times went, to improve the ease in its implementation, modifications on gotong royong as a value, personal, and competitiveness are performed. As a living value, gotong royong prioritize tolerance, equality & equity, consciousness, loyalty, teamwork, and willingness to improve integrity. From the personal side, people with gotong royong is selfless or a person who invites and encourages the environment to take a role. Lastly, from the competitive side which means that gotong royong can be achieved as a system belief in the form of communication, cooperation, and healthy competition.
Concerning the good implementation, the community needs to be aware of the way to instill Pancasila to preserve it. The chairman of IKA UNS Jawa Tengah, Dr.Sudaryanto, M.Si stated that instilling Pancasila can be performed by understanding the history and the struggle of Indonesia. With the comprehension of the process, it will be easier to understand the values contained in the five moral principles of Pancasila one by one, which can be applied directly in the daily life, for example, by mutual respect, compassion, and building the spirit of togetherness.
Threats to the Indonesian ideology exists to this day. Prof. Abdul Kharis explained that the threats to Indonesia will always exist. It will be unnatural for a country to be always safe. The explanation was triggered because by realizing the threat, a country would be better prepared. Threats to the country come in various forms, both physical attach and discreet and invisible threats.
The implementation of Pancasila in the government bureaucracy and the State Civil Apparatus (Aparatur Sipil Negara – ASN) was also discussed in the webinar, after the discussion on the public domain. Specifically, Prof. Zudan as Directorate General of Population and Civil Registration of the Ministry of Interior Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia explained that taking a role as a part of bureaucracy and ASN requires a conscience that the ability to be loyal and maintain the ideals and foundations of an organization with changing values is a must.
The bureaucracy in the government cannot be separated from the generation that has the Street Smart and Academic Smart mindset. These mindsets are a significant factor that determines ASN behaviors. The Street Smarts are people who learn from experience and are more capable of adapting and thus tend to be more successful and easier to adapt. As for the Academic Smart are those who are idealistic about what the learn at the formal education.
Participants are very enthusiastic with the discussion, various opinions and questions were conveyed in the forum to exchange ideas with one another. Pancasila as the foundation of the country is a guideline for all Indonesia people in their daily life. It is our responsibility to apply the foundation in daily life.
“Instilling the values of Pancasila starts from us, family, neighbor, friend, enemy, or people who hate us. We cannot make everyone happy, but we can make those closest to us happy,” Prof. Zudan advised while closing the discussion. Humas UNS/Ratri
