UNS – The Center for Science and Technology Excellence (PUI) Javanology, Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta is starting to move to the new building on Thursday (9/7/2020). The inauguration of the new building was marked by the cutting of a ‘tumpeng (cone-shaped traditional rice cooking style)’ by the Rector of UNS Prof. Jamal Wiwoho.
The Chair of PUI Javanology UNS, Prof. Sahid Teguh Widodo states that even though the construction of the PUI Javanology building is not 100 percent complete, but the building can already be occupied for activities, offices, and Higher Education Tri Dharma activities. “This building is designed to have four floors, however, only a ninth of it finished. However, it can be occupied, thus if the PUI Javanology peer group needs to do meeting or activity, they have a place to go already,” explains Prof. Sahid.
Aside from the building, there are various facilities available in the PUI Javanology building such as ‘pendhopo (a large pavilion-like structure built on columns in Javanese traditional house)’ with an area of 400 square meters and include an ample of parking space. “Therefore, if there are cultural arts or other activities, the existing facilities are ready,” he added.
Along with the presence of this PUI Javanology building, Prof. Sahid hopes this can be a momentum to support UNS at the international level. Later on when UNS has become a Legal Entity State University (PTNBH), thus the facilities available in PUI Javanology UNS can be commercialized to be a Revenue Generating. “Our Pendhopo can be rented out for cultural arts performance activities, wedding ceremonies, and other performances. The PUI Javanology UNS will assist to organize the event because many of our peer group members are experts in its field. Therefore, the presence of PUI Javanology UNS not only contributes to education activities but also contributes to generating income,” reveals Prof. Sahid.
To that end, Prof. Sahid requested support from all parties, thus the construction process of the PUI Javanology UNS Building would soon be completed. Meanwhile, the Rector of UNS, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho adds that PUI Javanology UNS is one of the excellences in UNS. Prof. Jamal hopes that the presence of PUI Javanology UNS can support the vision of UNS and lift-up UNS’s name at the international level. “In line with the vision of UNS to be the center for the development of science, technology, and art, which excel internationally, based on the noble values of national culture,” Prof. Jamal states.
