UNS – The Dharma Wanita Persatuan (DWP-a women organization whose members are the wife of Indonesian civil servant), Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta handed the Pantun Anthology in COVID-19 Empathy of 2020 to the Rector of UNS, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho, Thursday (9/7/2020). The anthology book contains several Pantuns (a four-lined verse consisting of alternating, roughly rhyming lines), the work of the DWP UNS members.
The Chief of UNS DWP, Budhi Wijayanti Jamal Wiwoho, states that during the COVID-19 pandemic, the UNS DWP organized a Pantun competition entitled Pantun String of DWP UNS Empathy on Covid-19, this competition is aimed for the internal UNS DWP members. In total there are 83 members who participated in this competition for 13 DWP Implementing Elements.
“This Empathy Pantun Competition aims to inspire enthusiasm, in order to rise up in the face of current conditions. Even though we are staying home, we need to think positively. This positive thought can be poured into Pantuns that is encourage our enthusiasm in dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic,” Budhi explains.
The submitted Pantun, then, is collected into a book with 97 pages and is now completed and published. “For initial publication, we printed around 300 books. The books are distributed to the members and administrators of the UNS DWP,” she added. The book itself contains a remark from the Chair of UNS DWP, a remark from the Rector of UNS, the profile of the board of juries, strings of Pantun from the juries, and the best selected Pantun.
Meanwhile, the Rector of UNS, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho, highly appreciates the committee and members of the UNS DWP who remain productive during a pandemic. “This shows that the members of UNS DWP keep on crafting by making Pantun during the Covid-19 pandemic, which then collected into a book,” Prof. Jamal states.
