UNS — From his whim in writing his identity as “Prof. Dr. Farouq Heidar Barido S.Pt” in a small paper for his new bag, the alumnus of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, Farouq Heidar Barido S.Pt is currently studying in Kangwon National University, South Korea, with a scholarship from BEST-KNU (Bring Excellent Student to Kangwon National University). Moreover, currently, Edo is in his integrated program for Department of Applied Animal Science.
“I feel so lucky to get an opportunity to continue my study in an integrated program. So, during four years, I can cut my study period to get a Doctoral degree without went through the Master program,” Edo shared in sharing day #28 of UNS Global Ambassador early October 2020.
Besides his experience studying in UNS, on the occasion, Edo also shared his story when studying in Korea, one of which is on learning culture. Edo said that every week they conducted “weekly meeting” on Monday to discuss their progress with their Professors. Korea also has high study target in a short period. Therefore, it is often that students add their learning hours to finish their target. The student from Kendal also shared the challenges that he experienced in Korea, which is the language. Korea, Edo stated, is a country that respects their language, so that new students, especially international students are required to take language class (Korean languages level one and two). Edo found a solution for this and create his translated material and prepared reference book in English.
The alumnus of Faculty of Agriculture (FP) UNS also shared tips for students who want to continue their study abroad that they can start preparing from semester 5 to 7 as anticipation in preparing several requirements that need longer time such as language skill. Based on his experience, he said that in preparing an essay, for example, students should understand their condition and describes their ability mildly. As for research plan, he suggested that students read a lot of references according to their discipline, find out learning system in their target university, and prepared research based on the issues in Indonesia which the results can be implemented in the country.
The awardee of the first batch Global Challenge 2016 also shared his daily stories in Korea, such as the living costs, time management, part-time jobs, and places he visited. “As long as we have the spirit, never be afraid to realize it. As long as we get prayers from parents, our prayers, and consistency in achieving our target, nothing is impossible to achieve,” Edo said.
For participants who are still studying in UNS, he suggested that they take the opportunities provided by the university, one of which is the Global Challenge program. Edo also encouraged the participants to write their dreams and realized it because according to him, “Nothing is impossible to achieve!” HUMAS UNS
