UNS – The Sebelas Maret Student Volleyball League (Semar Livoma) 2024 features volleyball teams from 27 state and private universities across Indonesia. The tournament is being held at the Sports Hall (GOR) of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) in Surakarta from Monday (4/11/2024) to Saturday (9/11/2024).
Dr. Deddy Whinata Kardiyanto, S.Or., M.Pd., supervisor of the UNS Volleyball Student Activity Unit (UKM), noted that Semar Livoma is an annual event organized by the UNS Volleyball UKM. “The number of participants in Semar Livoma 2024 exceeded our expectations, with 27 men’s volleyball teams and 18 women’s volleyball teams from 27 universities. This high participation reflects the strong interest in the event among university volleyball teams in Indonesia,” Dr. Deddy shared during the opening event on Monday (4/11/2024).
In Semar Livoma 2024, teams are competing for the rotating trophy from the Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology of Indonesia, introduced in 2019, and a permanent trophy from the UNS Rector. “This event was paused in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but it resumed in 2022 and continues now in 2024,” Dr. Deddy added.
The organizing committee hopes participants will enjoy the experience. “We aim for Semar Livoma to be a platform for showcasing talent, and we’re confident that the community will enjoy the volleyball matches,” he continued.
As the host, UNS aims for its men’s and women’s teams to rank in the top four. “UNS has consistently placed in the top four each year, so our goal is for both men’s and women’s teams to achieve this again,” Dr. Deddy stated.
Several players in this year’s Semar Livoma already have national-level experience. “We don’t restrict players as long as they’re registered students listed in the Higher Education Database (PDDikti),” Dr. Deddy concluded.
