UNS — The Rector of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho, inaugurated Gelora Kampus Merdeka (Independent Campus Sports Arena) located behind Building C Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) UNS, Friday (6/11/2020). The inauguration of Gelora Kampus Merdeka FKIP UNS marked with the signing the inscription and hitting the gong three times by Prof. Jamal Wiwoho.
In this occasion, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho was accompanied by the Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, Prof. Ahmad Yunus, Vice-Rector for Finance and Management Affairs UNS Dr. Bandi, Vice-Rector for Student and Alumni Affairs UNS, Prof. Kuncoro Diharjo, Vice-Rector for Partnership and Planning Affairs UNS, Prof. Sajidan, and the Dean of FKIP UNS, Dr. Mardiyana. In particular, Prof. Jamal delivered his gratitude and appreciation for FKIP UNS support for Kampus Merdeka (Independent Campus) Program promoted by the Minister of Education and Culture (Mendikbud) RI, Nadiem Makarim.
“On behalf of UNS executive board, I congratulate you for the construction of Gelora Kampus Merdeka UNS. Kampus Merdeka Program is the policy from Mendikbud and I appreciated FKIP who has the initiative to build this Gelora Kampus Merdeka,” Prof. Jamal stated.
Prof. Jamal also shared his expectation that the 11 faculties and the Vocational School (SV) UNS can follow the example of FKIP UNS which is one step ahead in implementing Kampus Merdeka Program. In a different interview, the Dean of FKIP UNS, Dr. Mardiyana, explained that Gelora Kampus Merdeka was designed as a center for student’s activities in FKIP UNS, both in the field of sports such as futsal, volleyball, basketball and table tennis, as well as in the field of art such as the open stage. “The Gelora Kampus Merdeka also can be used as a center for discussion and Focus Discussion Group (FGD) for Student Creativity Program (Program Kreativitas Mahasiswa – PKM), shelter browsing internet, and the center for student’s entrepreneurship,” Dr. Mardiyana explained. He added that his part completed the sports arena with semi gymnasium building equipped with lighting to support activities at night.
The new facility is expected to support student’s achievements in their interest, talents, reasoning skills, entrepreneurship and to support UNS new status as University with Legal Entity (PTN BH), as well as supporting the Kampus Merdeka and Merdeka Belajar Program. “The implementation of this program provides a facility for students to learn according to their passions. Gelora Kampus Merdeka can become a place to develop a student’s competence according to their talents and interests. In the Gelora Kampus Merdeka, students also can learn about democracy and leadership training through activities in BEM. Student’s entrepreneurship spirit also needs to be developed and adjusted to the progress in the Industrial Revolution 4.0 era,” he concluded. Humas UNS
