UNS – Three students from the D-3 Informatics Engineering Study Program at UNS’s PSDKU in Madiun have made their university proud. The students, Habib Ainur Maruf, Rossi Dwi Cahyo, and Zakaria Zidan Zamroni, won first place in the International Learning Multimedia Competition. The PSDKU campus is located in Madiun, East Java, and serves as one of UNS’s off-main campus study programs.
About the Hero Independence Game
The UNS team, named “Hero Independence,” developed a mobile game to combine education with entertainment. The game tells the story of Indonesia’s journey to independence, including its struggles against colonial powers. The project addresses the lack of historical literacy among children by engagingly presenting history.
“With this approach, our team hopes that children and young people can enjoy a fun game while also learning history. The game focuses on captivating users through exciting gameplay and gradually introducing educational elements as they progress,” Habib explained to uns.ac.id on Tuesday (21/1/2025).
Competition Journey and Mentorship

The team’s innovation helped them stand out among more than 50 teams during the preliminary round. They advanced to the top ten finalists in the competition, which was hosted by Universitas Negeri Surabaya (Unesa).
During the final preparation stage, the team received guidance from Yusuf Fadlila Rachman, S.Kom, M.Kom, a lecturer in the D-3 Informatics Engineering Study Program. His mentorship played a crucial role in refining their project.
Habib expressed his gratitude for the experience gained while preparing for the international-scale competition. He emphasized that the team’s solid collaboration played a vital role in achieving their goals. He also encouraged other students, particularly those from PSDKU, to remain motivated in seeking experiences.
Habib expressed his gratitude for the experience and highlighted the importance of teamwork. “Alhamdulillah, we are very grateful for our success. This experience is not just about winning but also about the learning process and teamwork.”
“To my fellow students, especially those in PSDKU, never feel discouraged about being part of an off-campus program. The opportunity to shine is always there. Don’t be afraid to try new things, seize opportunities, and always work hard and pray,” he added.
