UNS — The Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) welcoming two of its professors into retirement. The farewell ceremony was conducted virtually through the Zoom Cloud Meeting and Youtube Livestreaming on UNS Youtube Channel on Wednesday (28/7/2021). The two retired professors are Prof. Dr. dr. Zainal Arifin Adnan, Sp.PD-KR, FINASIM, and Prof. Dr. dr. Mohammad Fanani, Sp.KJ(K). Both professors are from the Faculty of Medical Science (FK) UNS.
The event was opened with a remark from the Chair of the Board of Professors, Prof. Drs. Suranto Tjiptowibisono, M.Sc., Ph.D. Prof. Suranto congratulates the professors for their retirement, “Thank you for our two outstanding professors Prof. Zainal and Prof. Fanani. May Allah give health and blessings to our two professors and their beloved family.”
A similar message was delivered by the Dean of FK UNS, Prof. Dr. dr. Reviono, Sp.P(K)., who thanked the two professors for their dedication. At the end of the welcoming remark delivered by the Rector of UNS, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho, M. Hum., states that the pride of a professor is not from the material achievement. “The pride of this profession does not lie on the material, but our community devotion,” Prof. Jamal states.
On this occasion, Prof. Zainal delivers an honorary speech entitled “The Effect of Biomechanical Damage on Chondrocyte Apoptosis in Cartilage Rabbit Knee Joint Through Accumulation of Intracellular Ca2+ (the Discovery of Zainal Path)”.
“Joint cartilage is made up of cells known as chondrocytes <5% from the total volume and Extracellular Matrix (ECM) > 90% from the total volume. ECM contains collagen and proteoglycan aggregates that provide strength, elasticity, and cartilage recoil ability in cartilage. In normal adult cartilage, ECM will constantly be degraded and revived, a process governed by chondrocytes through the synthesis of enzymes that degrade collagen and proteoglycans. For instance, the metalloproteinases matrix and its inhibitors, namely the inhibitor-metalloproteinase tissue,” explains Prof. Zainal.
Meanwhile, Prof. Fanani delivers an honorary speech entitled “Hollistic Concept in Mental Health.”
“In daily practice, not many clinical parties holistically examine mental health and disorder. So far, the intervention effort taken is only from one point of view. Thus psychological intervention is not optimally implemented. Moreover, most community members still view mental disorders negatively and skeptically. Therefore, I feel the need to disclose this matter before an honorable court to enhance our understanding of the role of biological, psychological, social, cultural, and spiritual aspects on mental disorders. I hope that we can see mental health and disorder holistically,” he explains.
After the honorary speech, the ceremony is followed with felicitation from colleagues, which is delivered through a video. Following the felicitation, there was a symbolic handover of ‘relay baton’ from Prof. Dr. Zainal Arifin Adnan, dr., Sp.PD-KR-FINASIM to a young colleague represented by Dr. Arif Nuruddin, dr., Sp. PD; and from the Prof. Dr. Mohammad Fanani, dr., Sp.KJ (K) to young colleagues represented by Dr.dr. Gusti Ayu Maharatih, Sp.KJ (K), M.Kes. The event was concluded with the handover of momento and prayer. Humas UNS
