UNS – Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta organized a community service event to commemorate its 49th Dies Natalis. The event took place at the Surakarta Mayor’s official residence, Loji Gandrung, on Sunday morning (27/4/2025). It was part of Car Free Day (CFD) event on Slamet Riyadi Street in Solo.
Community Health Initiatives at Loji Gandrung
The event attracted several prominent figures, including UNS Rector Prof. Dr. Hartono, dr. M.Si., and other university and faculty leaders. It began with a joint health exercise, followed by the UNS Expo. The expo featured consultations with specialist doctors. It also included a health talk show on the importance of child health titled “Anak Sehat, Indonesia Kuat” (Healthy Children, Strong Indonesia). In addition, there were free flu vaccinations, medical check-ups for general public and UNS retirees, and a children’s coloring competition.
Collaboration and Gratitude for Support
In his speech, Prof. Hartono emphasized that the event was a clear reflection of UNS’s commitment to serving the community. “Our goal is to provide health services while educating the public on the importance of maintaining health from an early age. We hope these activities can raise awareness of healthy living. It also aims to strengthen the relationship between UNS and the people of Surakarta,” Prof. Hartono explained.
Prof. Hartono also expressed his gratitude to the Mayor of Surakarta and the city government for their support. He also thanked them for facilitating the use of Loji Gandrung as the venue for the event.
“We are very grateful to the Mayor for supporting the use of this official residence,” he added. “We hope that the collaboration between UNS and the Surakarta City Government continues to grow.”
During the event, Prof. Hartono highlighted the diverse range of health services available. “We provided 20 free consultation clinics, covering various medical fields. These included obstetrics, ophthalmology, internal medicine, pediatrics, dermatology, surgery, anesthesiology, and even forensic medicine. UNS Hospital deployed hundreds of medical staff to assist the public,” Prof. Hartono stated.
Additionally, the event offered free flu vaccinations, though the service was limited to 100 people. It also provided free medical check-ups, allowing the public to detect health issues early.
“We hope that this community service activity provides significant benefits, especially in health, by offering free treatments and consultations,” Prof. Hartono remarked.
He also expressed his hope that this face-to-face community service initiative would become an annual event. He wished for it to be held during UNS’s Dies Natalis celebrations in the future.
“I highly appreciate the hard work of the organizing committee and the medical team from Dr. Moewardi Regional General Hospital. It is also for the Faculty of Medicine at UNS, and UNS Hospital. I want to thank all the sponsors who supported this event’s success,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Mayor of Surakarta, Respati Ardi, encouraged Solo residents to take full advantage of this opportunity.
“Take advantage of the free health check-ups, consultations, and flu vaccinations available today. We must be proactive in maintaining our health and not wait until we are sick,” the Mayor urged.
The Chair of UNS’s 49th Dies Natalis Committee, Prof. Dr. Ir. Samanhudi, S.P., M.Si., IPM, ASEAN Eng., APEC Eng., stressed the importance of the event. He emphasized that it was an integral part of the 49th Dies Natalis celebrations.
“We hope that this event provides real benefits to the people of Solo. Thank you to everyone who helped make this event a success,” Prof. Samanhudi concluded.
